heat and fast heart rate

by flowergirl2060, Jun 19, 2008 08:14PM
Several times in the last year I have been outside for an hour or so in the summer heat (above 95 degrees).  I have felt a fast heart rate (130 plus).  I have also been very light headed and dizzy.  Can the heat cause this?

Could be dehydration...

When the body gets hot it dilates blood vessels to increase blood flow to the skin to attemp to cool your body and that increases your heart rate.  When it is hotter than 98.6 degrees out you can only lose heat by sweating, so you need to keep hydrated.

But the answer to your question is, yes.  heat can cause your heart rate to increase but I would have it checked out by a doctor just to be on the safe side.
