irregular heart beat.

irregular heart beat.

hello im a 42 yo male, smoker, not the  fittest, family man.about 3 months ago i got very drunk at a party, the next day i had an irregular heart beat all day(palpitations)(ive had them before but not this bad) it gradually decreased over the following weeks but never really stopped, ive seen my doc who put me thru tests ,including a 24 hr, holt test(is that right) which showed up positive with palpitations, a blood test ,that was normal apart from a little high with cholesteral.the palpitations continue at a daily on,-off basis.i noticed that especially after a ciggerette,  i get palpitations so i  decided to quit smoking two weeks ago,( i also smoke cannibas for 20 years (cronic (chronic) user, but have cut back drastically since  the party but now smoke straight not mixed with tobacco am working on giving that up aswell.)  the doc put me on champix.its only been 2 weeks since i quit(and it has decreased palpitations but not stopped) and  im still getting palpitations,( mild) .ive been smoking for 25 years.my doctor is giving it another 2 weeks,if i still have palpitations hes going to send me to a specialist(cardiologist).(i must admit though, that they actually started maybe last year but very rare and only last for so long then totally gone).since that party 3 months ago its hasnt left. my family has a history of heart attacks.(dad, mum and younger brother all had heart attacks, brother passed away 4 years ago.mum and dad had operations. .just a bit paranoid, concerned at the momment.thank you for letting me vent.

Don't worry until they find something wrong.  (We're all ones to talk..lol) Anyway, you simply need a cardiac work up when something "new" starts.  It is basically so the doctor thinks he's done everything and to alleviate your fears (which if the palps keep up, you'll have anyway, but to a lessor degree). If he tells you your heart is structurally sound, you'll have to learn to live with your new companion....your heart.  It can be challenging, but you'll do it. In the meantime, feel blessed that you quit smoking, because if you have PVCs, PACs, or any other of the fun problems, smoking (which can give you heart disease) is something you do NOT want to do.  BTW, I have had pals for over 30 years and every single time I partied with alcohol, the whole next day was spent with PVCs and the like.  Always.  I knew what was coming when I drank.
