low BP and changing heart rhythm

by becradiology, Jul 13, 2009 01:21PM
I have been having trouble for about 6 mths now with blood pressure and pulse.  Back in April, I was sent to the hospital from my regular doctor's office.  At the clinic my pulse was over 200.  When I arrived at the hospital, my pulse was below 50 and my blood pressure was 70/50.  A cardiologist kepted me for days( after many test he sent me home with no answers).  One night I woke thinking I was having a heart attack.  My pulse was very high and blood pressure was very low.  I got to the ER and was told I was having PVC's.  The ER doc said I was having a panic attack, even though this woke me from a dead sleep.  He gave me some valium and sent me home.  Four days later I was scheduled for a minor outpatient surg.  After the nurse hooked me up to the monitor, she called the doctor in and he said I could not be put to sleep that day.  My heart rate was 226.  They gave me something through my IV to slow it down.  After this long story, what I want to know is "What can I do?"  Doctors don't seem to be worried, should I be?  I'm scared I will go to sleep and not wake up.  I am a 34 yr old female and not over weight.  I don't exercise reg., but I passed the stress test with flying colors.  Can you help me to understand what's going on with my body?

What is your normal resting heart rate?  If it is over 100 bpm, you are in a problem area and should be on a medication to lower your HR.  That said, most (all?) beta blockers used to lower the HR also lower the blood pressure, you don't seem to need that.  I'm surprised you didn't pass-out with a BP of 70/50.. well maybe you were sitting down at the time and didn't need a lot of oxygen.

Did any of the doctors say "tachycardia"?  Is your heart rhythm regular, no jumping around?  You didn't mention a cardiologist, have you talked with one about your heart problems?

When I was hospitalized in april, a cardiologist did a complete work up.  My resting BP stays below 100/70.  I  have fainted a couple of times and feel faint often.  The doctors have said the word tachycardia.  My pulse will jump around at any given time.  It seems like when I get up and move around,  I will feel better.  Lying down is when I have the most problems.  It is a very uncomfortable feeling.  When I was in the hospital being monitored,  I could feel something was not right.  The replace battery light was lit up on my monitor.  I called the nurse and she said it was fine.  I know my body and I know when something is not right.  How do I go about finding someone to help me?

You've mentioned a couple of fainting episodes.  Did these occur in relation to your low blood pressure?  Have you ever been tested for Dysautonomia?
