mitral valve prolapse survey

I would like to know who out there has mvp with moderate or moderate severe regurgitation ,whose regurg has not gotten any worse since being diagnosed . I am wondering if it always gets worse, or can it stay status quo, and if valve replacement or repair is inevitable ?

This seems not to be what your are looking for, but it is related data.

I suffered from a leaky Mitral valve (regurgitation) for a number of years, maybe decades.  The condition didn't come to light until I developed atrial fibrillation.  This was in my late 50s.  An echocardiogram study showed the regurgitation, but because of the risk of open heart surgery the decision was made to leave it along and monitor it.  I was converted to Normal Sinus Rhythm (NSR) a few times and so was just living with the regurgitation.  The down side was the regurgitation was causing enlargement of the left atrium... resulting in more chronic AFib and finally concern about congenital heart failure do to the continued enlargement of my heart.  I underwent Mitral Valve repair in November of 2007.  Since that time my enlarged heart has shrunk to just a little over sized and there is hope it may shrink back to the upper normal range of size, here the left atrium is the chamber of concern.

So my experience says unless the regurgitation is so slight that it doesn't cause enlargement of the left atrium one can expect the condition to worsen over time and lead to the need to repair the valve.  This makes me wonder if I wouldn't have been better off to have repaired the valve before the enlargement became critical.  Perhaps if the mitral valve had been repaired 5 years sooner I'd have less trouble with AFib.  This is something you may what to talk with your doctor about, operate sooner rather than later.

My surgery went well with very little pain and no complications, so I am positive on surgery, but that has much to do with the quality of the surgeon, and I suppose some luck. Still I was not able to work for a couple of weeks and not able to drive a car for a month, i.e., if I had to drive to get to work, I'd not have been able to work for at least a month.  Here I'm talking  a "desk job", not heavy construction work... or even work that requires extensive time on the feet.

I was just diagnosed with mvp and moderate severe regurg a month ago .totality took me by surprise..I went to the cardiologist yesterday and had a stress test, which I did did great on. the Dr. said I am nowhere needing valve surgery. He did say that it might not progress any further , but there is no way to tell. Everything I read seems to suggest that repair or replacement lies ahead . May I ask where you had your surgery done?
