more info for random racing

by beaurline, Dec 09, 2008 04:55PM
Ok...yes when i woke up the other morning my HR was 137 bpm; sometimes when i'm sitting, and i think i'm pretty relaxed, it'll go to 97-113 bpm. And lately, i've been feeling this one hard pound in my chest then it just palpitates. I don't get it. I've been trying to lay off the caffeine lately, and i have been on my same meds (Concerta 72 mg) for  a year now, but i've never really noticed my HR as much as lately. I've been laying off exercise a bit so to avoid overtraining, but my heart rate is still a bit higher than normal sometimes

Well it sounds to me like you need to talk with a cardiologist.  A resting HR over 100 is too high.

Have you been diagnosed with fibrillation or flutter heart problems?

As for Concerta, I see only its use for attention disorder, nothing on heart rhythm. You may need a beta blocker to slow down you HR...this would have to be determined by a doctor.

Have you been under undo stress lately? 137 is quite high for a resting heart rate.  I don't think during my worst panic that I've experienced a heart rate of over 137. How are you clocking your pulse at 137?  I have noticed when I feel my heart racing that is very faster than what is really beating.  Sometimes when I have palpitations I can feel both beats of the heart thinking that it is beating twice as fast as it really is.  120 bpm is twice a second. If you can imagine how fast a second is, then your heart rate at 137 is twice, or slightly more that 2 times a second..  Just something to consider if your sitting on the couch relaxing and taking your pulse.  Anxiety can increase the heart rate considerably if you are concentrated on how fast your heart is beating and it can lead to even a faster heart rate if you get a rush of fear throughout your body.  Hope all is well, and try to relax...  Zach
