nightly palpitations

Hello, I am new to site and have a few questions. I am with a cardiologist now wearing an event monitor. I had sudden onset about 3 weeks ago of what I thought palpitations. Go to dr., panicked and then off to cardiologist. My ekg said old heart attack. I have no recollection of a heart attack. I have MS and take Betaseron. I have been off med for one week as well as ibuprofen. They seem to be better but increase after I eat and at night. Anyone have anything similar happen. glad to have found you all.

I believe many people suffer a minor heart attach (I use the term "minor" with caution) and do not know it.  Then too, I didn't know a doctor could "see" a past heart attack from a simple EKG... but seems that is the case.

You description of palpitations isn't complete enough to have an opinion, but the approach to learn what it is to wear an event monitor.  I thinks that should clear up the diagnosis if you have an even while wearing the monitor.

As you may have read, many people have PVC (Premature Ventricle Contractions) which may be the most noticeable of the various heart rhythms.   If the palps are very soft, they may be atrium based, or PAC.  I can sometimes fell the effects of my atrial fibrillation, but I usually don't.  I suppose I could be more sensitive at night, when in bed going to sleep.  I know sometimes I can hear my heart beating at those quiet times, but I usually can not hear or feel my heart beats.

Good luck with the upcoming diagnosis.

I just wanted to say and welcome, Mamaam. I'm new to all of this too. Mine started during the day tho, strong, erratic heart beats, no pain. They only occurred about once a month March thru July this year. The last episode in July was strong enough to send me to ER. My family doctor scripted a 30 day event monitor that I had little faith in given the timing between noticeable events. Ha! I had TWO noticeable events whilst on it and ended up w/a Dx of Atrial fibrillation.

I've had cardiac stress tests, nuclear cardiac stress tests, regular cardiac stress tests thru the years, all w/no abnormalities. Only the lowly echocardiogram indicated a mild MVP and some mild pulmonary hypertension. The MVP runs in my dad's family and out of 8 kids he was the youngest to die at 79. The PH wasn't exactly a surprise since I have COPD. And only the 30 day event monitor found the arrhythmias.

I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea since a whiplash in early 1994 but didn't start CPAP until 2006 and wasn't switched to bi-level PAP until 2008. So a Dx of cardiac arrhythmias wasn't exactly a surprise. Give the SOB, PH and untreated OSA for so long some form of cardiac arrhythmia or problem was almost an eventual given.

The extended cardiac event monitor is an excellent way for you to go and I hope it provides the answers needed to get you on to the right therapy to end or treat your symptoms.

Good luck and God bess.
