okay now I am freaking out

I have to have a colonoscopy on the 27th of August.  Of course, I already was freaking about about being sedated with Versed because of my stupid heart.  NOW, I just got the pills (Osmoprep)required to take prior and all over the side effects is irregular heartbeat and someting about a QTc prolongation in the EKG.  Has anyone had problems with the prep?  I have already heard back about versed and it seems as though that is pretty safe for people like us with PVC's, SVT etc.

Versed is a pretty safe medication, and though I didn't see the thread they're talking about I can tell you from experience that sedation did not affect my heart negatively.  In fact, I was having a bad batch of PACs and I was told I had ZERO during my 2 hour surgery, and for weeks after I had none.  It was a welcome break!  As for the prep, I suspect dehydration is the issue with palps.  QT prolongation is only an issue if you have Long QT.

My dad used the halflyte prep and he is on a multitude of heart medications.  He also takes coumadin for chronic afib, but was off of it for the procedure.  No problems

I used the PhosFleet prep and even though I was accustomed to a lot of pvcs (20,000+ per day), I had no problem with the prep or the sedation.  Be sure to inform the doctor/nurses that you are anxious about the procedure and the prep.  They are great at reassurance.  Good luck with the test and the results.

thanks for your feedback....There is supposed to be something out there called halflyte for people 100 lbs or under.  I weigh 105.  The nurse just called and gave me her two cents.  She used the pills once and the halflyte once.  She got sicker on the halflyte.  She told me the only reason they have irregular heartbeat as an uncommon side effect is because of dehydration.  Sorry guys, I know this is a heart forum but indirectly this anxiety IS because of my heart.

I have had colonoscopies and the versed has not caused any problems.  The Go Lyte is absolutely awful.  Drinking a gallon of that is more of an ordeal than the colonoscopy. I'd rather try the Osmoprep and take my chances with PVCs.

I had Versed when I had my TEE test, and didn't experience one PVC or racing heart, nothing.

There was a thread on here about Versed a few weeks ago.  Everyone here said they had no palpitations on Versed.  It sedates you, so your heart is actually less likely to skip or go into arrhythmia.

I don't know about the Osmoprep though.  I've had Versed but never had a colonoscopy.
