pacemaker implant

I am a 73 year old male with a resting heart rate of 36-38, I have always had a low heart rate.  I run 30 miles a week and have competed in quite a few 5K and 10K races. I am asymptomatic because I am never dizzy and have not ever passed out.  My cardiologist gave me a stress test on a treadmill and said I was borderline in need of a pacemaker. They put a heart monitor on me for 24 hrs. and my heart stopped once at 2:30 a.m. for 2 seconds.  I have sleep Apnea and sleep with a CPAP machine. I need some advice as to what direction to take.

I have had a lot of patients say that they feel like a "new person" after they get their pacemakers.  If you are worried about the procedure, it is quite simple, you will be taken down in to the cardiac catherization lab, a small incision will be made in your left upper chest and wires will be placed in your heart (you won't feel a thing).  I understand you are a runner, but 36-38 bpm is quite slow, and with your heart stopping for 2 seconds during sleep, you may need something to compensate for that.  Good luck in your decision!
