pacemaker with defib.

pacemaker with defib.

In Aug.2010 I had to have a pacemaker put in, after over 40 yrs of being missed.  I died 4 times.  Once at home, once in the rescue unit in route to the hospital, once in the ER, and again in ICU.  The Dr.s put a temp pace maker in my neck until the next day when the installed the real one.  Now the other problem is that my heart is beating to fast and I'm going into A-fib. Pacemaker showed that in two months, I had over 114 times when my heart rate was 198 and above. Med's are not working.  They now want to do a Ablation.  Do you think that they should replace the Pacemaker with a Pacemaker with a Defibulator?  I need some answers. Thanks

I'm not sure if you meant this for the dr's forum? if so, please try the expert heart disease forum - it may take a few tries to get an answer in since they only take I think 2 questions per day but keep trying =)

I'm not sure why they put a pacemaker in to begin with? did you have Bradycardia - that's usually why to regulate the low heart rates.  They could do and ablation for your AFib and it work wonders or not work at all; but with your SCA event's I would really question why not just go ahead with a combo Pacemaker/ICD unit (defibrillator) also just to be safe.

But...I'm just a patient who's been through SCA, not a doctor =)  (SCA - sudden cardiac arrest)
