palpatations

I was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse many years ago.  I saw two different Cardiologists at about 2 years apart since then and they said there was no sign of Mitral Valve Prolapse.  I tried once to get off the Metoprolol.  I went from a small dose of 25 mg once a day to half of that once a day for two weeks, then every other day, then skip a couple or three days, then skip more days, then stopped.  I still had palpatations and very fast heartbeat.  If I was very still, I was okay but when I moved at all or ate a meal, then came the palpatations.   will I ever be able to get off of  it?

I was prescribed the Metoprolol for Mitral Valve Prolapse.  After taking the Metoprolol for many years my then Doctor told me to wean and how to.  But it didn't work.  There is nothing wrong with my heart.  I have seen 2 Cardiologists over the past years.  They said that I am fine, did all the tests, everything, nothing wrong.  One doctor sugested that since I had taken the Metoprolol for so long, my body is used to it and reacts without it.   So I decided myself to start weaning again.  the dose is so small, 25 mg.  I want to get off of it because I believe meds are poison.  Use them when you absolutely have to.  I am taking other meds and am going to do the same thing.  Strange thing, my husband is on Metoprolol for same thing, palpatations, nothing wrong with his heart.  A Cardiologist prescribed another med that made it worse.  He said to keep taking it.  My husband is also going to start weaning with or without a doctor.  Thanks for your info.

I think you should call the doc and have him/her direct you in weaning you off of the meds.  It has to have a very specific scheule in getting off of them. It does not mean it will not work it just have to be done under medical supervision.  You have not said why you are on the meds anyway.  Having MVP itself usually doesn't warrant being of Metoprolol. Do you have high blood pressure?  What type of palps did they say you had and if you are still having them my questions would be why?  Especially if you are still have palps is it such a great idea to go off of the meds.  My question is why would you want to go off of the meds if they are responsible for stopping the fast heart rate.  the side effects are so minute compared to the other issues.
