palpitations

hello,

i am 32fem with 3 children aged 6, 4.5 and 12 months old.

2 yrs ago i started having palpitations and fast h rate which was due to
my underactive thyroid acting up. i was put on inderal for a week till
my new correct dosage of thyroxine was effective. it worked they stopped.

i had a negative stress test and ekgs and triplex/doppler also
negative.

i was ok up until 3 mos following the birth of my daughter. since then
i've been experiencing extreme anxiety, fast rate and palpitations.

i'm seeing a therapist (no meds) and the h.rate has returned to
normal 72/74 even sometimes 65/68. my bp also 10/6.5-11/7 range.

but sometimes i experience palpitations which freighten me very much.

i had another negative triplex/doppler in january and the doctor laughed at
me when i reported i experience these episodes. he said my heart is fine.

i tried to write them down for a day and i actually counted about 100!!!! during
a 24hr period that i felt anyway.

my pulse between them is very normal and i don't experience anything else.

just these annoying palps.

should i be concerned ?  i have hashimotos underactive (last month checked).
for over 10yrs. no history of heart disease in family. i am 60 kgs, 166 cm.
dont' smoke, eat as healthy as possible, no cokes or coffee, chocolate, sweets etc...
dont drink either.

i can climb stairs and run with no chest pain or anything like that.

pls respond

hi
i am interested in the thyroid part of the puzzle cause the thyroid will play games with the heart and matabolism etc, also with hashimoto's being linked to autoimmiune side of things .i also feel the thyroid can make a person more prone to anxiety due to the very nature of the working's of the thyroid and all that it does.i think if u do some of what greendave said above and make sure your levels are in order ,these palps are probably just a once off every now and then .they can be upsetting for sure.

You have so much going for you but also one heck of a job with 3 young children  - we had four nearly one after the other and boy was that stressful!
I admire your strength to live such a healthy life style when it must be so tempting to have the odd treat - you certainly deseve it.
So we know you're healthy, fit and and look after yourself but the anxiety is a big issue. yet again you are doing something about by seeing a therapist. So what advice can I give?
Well stress certainly does produce many symptoms and in particular the reaction to stress of over breathing is 100% guaranteed to produce symptoms so my first advice would be to be aware of your breathing when you feel anxious and try for abdominal breathing. this is easy as if you put your hand resting lightly on your abdomen then aim to feel your hand rising and falling slowly showing that you are breathing correctly.
Another quick fix is relaxation through hypnotherapy and perhaps yoga and meditation.
Lastly a difficult one - are you getting enough sleep - with all the demands on your time?
So you really have my admiration for what you're doing and with the help of people in this comminity I hope you find the final pices in your jigsaw puzzlw that gives you the life that you need.
Best wishes
dave
