my daughter in law lives in a small towm with no real specialists in obgyn. she is approx 6, maybe 6 and one half months along. today her babys heartrate was 116. its never been low before and what would cause this? they are going to put her in the ob dept and monitor the baby for approx half an hour and then send her for a ultrasound. is there more that should be checked on? this is her 3rd child. thank you

I don't think there's any way to tell until the follow-up.  

My wife and I lost 5 pregnancies to mis-carriage (though we do have 2 perfect children now and are very grateful)  We started in our late 30s and this is common.  I know the worry and concern very well.  In all cases as things took a turn for the worse all we could do was wait.  Not even the doctors could give us an answer.

With my Son he showed some signs of stress with some bleeding and other development goals.  I actually at one time prepared myself for the worst.  But he came through it fine and was perfect.
