I recently had the new procedure a-fib where dr. goes up both sides of the groin area through the vains into the back of theheart and burns some vains in back of the heart.   How long does it take to get strength back?

Hope you get some input form someone with experience.

It is my understanding that ablation (sounds like that is what you had) usually takes a few weeks to heal completely, and I suppose that's necessary to regaining full strength.  It may be helpful if you explain what you mean by strength:  are you mobile or stuck in bed/chair, or are you talking about getting back to running or some other high output activity?

I have had 4 ablations.  The 2 ablations that used 7 catheters (both sides of the groin and down the neck) had a recoop time of about 5 days however, went back to work after 4 days  Those ablations took approx 7 hours to complete each time.  The other 2 ablations had a much quicker recovery times and the procedures were much shorter.  The last one had a recovery time of a few hours and I walked out of the hospital and through the parking structure to my car.  I did not have to be carted out with a wheelchair.

The incision sites we a bit sore for a few days but I felt fine soon after the procedures. I think recovery time is dependent on the individual and the amount of work done in the procedure.  I hope you are back loving life soon.

I fully recovered from my ablation in 3 1/2 weeks, had my ablation on August 17 and returnded to work on September 12 with no complications. Had a Stress test on September 16, with no complications, ablation was a total success.
