I have had SVT for 18 months and initially experienced the same symptoms. The good news (at least in my experience) is SVT can usually be controlled. I avoid caffeine, alcohol, MSG, decongestants, and those sorts of things that can spark an episode. I do have the "pill in the pocket" but never have to use it as I am episode free. SVT, in the presence of a structurally normal heart, is not the worst thing in the world. I first experienced episodes when I was 26. With all that being said, your doctor will hopefully let you know what is going on.
I second what bri2186 said. I too live with these "episodes" that come out of nowhere. Mine last about twenty minutes. PSVT sounds like the culprit (though it is NOT life threatening in a normal-functioning heart!!!). Best of luck and please don't freak yourself out. I've wasted way too much time and experienced way too much anxiety on the subject for the both of us. Let your doc know and you'll gain better piece of mind. Good luck! :)
thanks for the reply, it made me feel better to hear someone's opinion other than just what i could read on other sites. thanks again
Hello...
I'm sorry that you are feeling so scared by your recent experience. I can only offer you an opinion as to what may have happend to you. Your symptoms sound very sililar to those that accompany PSVT or SVT (paroxysmal Supraventricular tachycardia) This occurs with a sudden onset of rapid heart rate and for some, as quickly as it comes on, it very quickly terminates. It is not considered a life threatening event, but becuase this is your first episode, it defintely warrants investigation.
I suggest that you schedule an appt. with your primary Dr, to start. He can run certain tests and then determine if you should consult with a cardiologist. It is most likely something benign but will only be confirmed by an appt with your Dr. I hope that you get to the bottom of this:) Best of luck to you.
