worried

Hi im not sure if im in the right place,
March last year i had a suspected heart attack, then i had i angio gram, done and they said everything was fine,
I had to go to hospital while on holiday last week, and was asked how long i had a heart murmur for? Well the answer was i havent but the doc said i have and as given me a letter for my doctor to have a scan,
I am worried what this might be, surley my angio gram would have picked this up,
Do i need to worry, i am currently losing weight, and do lots of cardio exercise, should i stop this untill it is sorted?
Thanks for the help
Elaine

A murmur is something heard with a stethoscope.  I don't think an angiogram can detect it, it's looking for blocked arteries.  A murmur is related to the heart valves.

I'm sure someone must have listended to your heart when you had the angio workup.    I'm guessing they either didn't hear it at the time and the murmur is a more recent development, or they just missed it.

The next thing to do is get an echo to see what the valve(s) are doing.

Thankyou to you both for the responses, i went to hospital with vomiting as i am type 2 diabetic my sugars were all over the place because i couldnt eat for 2 days,
I have worked really hard to lose 156lbs over the last 2 yrs and would hate this to set that back, I was told cardio exercise was ok,by my doctor and i dont see a cardiologist. I am seeing my own doctor on monday, so i will layoff cardio exercise till then, i told a friend today and he said he wasnt suprised, as i get blue lips alot, these were always put down to my weight,
I will ask the Doctor about seeing a cardiologest,
thank you both

Hi Elaine....i agree 100% with Linda....you need to make sure that you are under the supervsion of your heart doc in regards to the weight loss and exercise program.  As far as a heart murmur goes literally millions of people on this earth have one and it is estimated that over half of them don't even know it so its pretty common  An angio is going to pick up clogged arteries and other pretty serious issues and if that was clear you can breathe a sign of relief with that one because they were ruling out plaque build up in the arteries leading into the heart or possibly some that may have broken loose which is one of the culpits of causing a heart attack.  If you have any family member that had a heart attack at age 50 or younger it means that you are pre disposed to having one yourself and doesn't mean you will it just means that you are in a higher risk group and the doctors put you on a "watch" off and on throughout your life.  As far as the murmur goes most times it is pretty benign and people as young as infants are born with one and most times it doesn't even go anywhere...it just gets a little scary because you don't know what is causing the fluttering feeling.  You have a pretty good doc if he or she is sending you out for further testing to ruleout any other issues.  Don't let this take over your life and scare you so that you are running back and forth to a hospital but for sure get clearance from your doc in regards to doing cardio especially if you are doing arobics and if you are on a major weight loss program and above all else make sure that you are drinking lots of water because dehydration can cause a lot of ugly stuff in our systems to rear its ugly head with our bodies.  If it were me i would not be super concerned unless your doc tells you to be and if you got the green light from the angio that is a positive...just safe guard yourself and make sure the doc says that you don't have to curb your activities until after your test.   Hopefully it was a heart doc that is doing your follow up and if not i would ask your doc for a referral to one because thats all they deal with is the heart and you will save yourself alot of time and anxiety by going directly the the source doc.....good luck Elaine.......

First congratulations on thewt loss and cardio program.  I'm sure you are feeling better and better. What was the reason you had to go the hospital while on holiday?  I'm assuming your cardiologist had cleared you for the wt loss and exercise program?  I know a lot pf people do a lot while walking around with a heart murmur but you should follow the Dr.'s orders and have it checked out as he suggested.  And continued sucess with your healthy regiment.
