Dangers of Baking Soda?

Hi there > I've found a new instant cure for my severe heartburn: Baking Soda.
It's a base, - so it evens out the acid reaction in your stomach, makes you burp > and instant relief. I even think it tastes good (like lobster? - yeah I'm weird - but this taste has been verified by others as well, lol)

Anyway, as I have no health insurance, and am too broke to buy Prilosec OTC every two weeks > I have been relying on Baking Soda on almost a daily basis. The last two weeks have been particularly bad, so I was wondering if this could harm me at all? > To be taking this much Baking Soda in? Can this harm me? Will it cause horrible problems to my system down the line?  >> OR - is this the cheap, common sense cure-all for stomach acid?
