External hemorrhoid treatment question

I recently developed a hemorrhoid that is "external" and won't go away.  It cannot be shoved back into the rectum as it seems to be attached right at the anus (maybe a couple of millimeters in or out, hard to tell exactly).  Well, it can be pushed inside slightly, but comes out again immediately.  After weeks waiting for a referral through my HMO, during which time the darn thing thankfully shrunk some and hurt a bit less (it never bled),  I was finally able to see a surgeon.  He described what sounds like a typical banding procedure, with several visits a few weeks apart.  The thing is, he said specifically that he was NOT going to band this external one, but that he would do the internal ones and that would somehow cause this external one to "dry up".  This followed a visual exam only, no scope, not even a finger in the butt.  It is true that I have at least one internal hemorrhoid, which pops out occasionally (not now though), but it is on the other side of the rectum and it was never bothersome enough to bother treating it.

I don't understand the proposed treatment for this "external" hemorrhoid.   Searched the web and found nothing about this.  In all cases the banding was just to remove one hemorrhoid vein, with no mention of a side effect on others.

Does his proposed treatment make sense?  If so, can somebody please explain how it works?

Thanks.

I don't know about the treatment but the Preparation suppositories works on both.  While you are waiting for treatment I would use the suppositories daily.  It's the fastest way to get out of pain and shrink the hemorroids (hemorrhoids).  Good luck
