Hemorrhoids

About 5 months ago I formed internal internal hemorrhoids and a fissure. I am a homosexual and engage in anal intercourse.  I have refrained from anal intercourse since my diagnosis. I also had anal warts for about 1.5 years that have been aymptomatic since march (I used condylox on my perianal and rectum, around the same time I developed hemorrhoids, can this be related?).  These hemorrhoids are causing big problems between me and my partner, as sex has always been an important aspect of our relationship.  I thought that I was fine because I had not had pain upon deficating for the last 4 or 5 nights, so I attempted anal sex last night.  The result ended up being me dripping with bright red blood and lots of pain today. My hemorrhoids have moved from internal to external type now and I am unsure of the fissure.  I attempted anal sex last night and the result ended up being me dripping with bright red blood and lots of pain today.  Now, the outer rectum is swollen (looks like external hemorrhoids) with two small openings that look to have developed on the hemorrhoids.   As of 3 months ago, my MD gave me some docusate and also hydrocortisone suppositories (which give me diarrhea within 10 mins of inserting them).  I usually take NSAIDS for the pain, up to 1.6 grams daily (does this put me at a risk of more bleeding? It seems that the antinflammatory action helps with the swelling also).  How long can hemorrhoids last?  Do they usually go away completely without treatment or will they reoccur everytime I have sex.  I miss having anal intercourse, its part of my homosexuality and I feel like I can't please my partner right now.  What makes a patient a good candidate for surgery? How long is recovery time?  and will surgery "cure" the pain I have during intercourse from recurring, once healed.

Can I say that hemorrhoids are such a pain in the ***? literally of course too!

Have you tried the otc rectal suppositories/creams to help shrink inflammed tissue in that area?  I find if I use them regularly when I have flare ups that it really does seem to help.  Also if they seem to give you the runs - look into some of the "natural" ones in health food stores - you might tolerate them better ( though many of them are still in the same medication base - oftentimes cocoa butter ).  Tea tree oil suppositories are also supposed to be good but I haven't tried them yet.  You can also use a tucks pad as a compress in between your buttocks to help with the external hemorroids (hemorrhoids) and the swelling from  the last time you had anal sex.  Do you have a sitz bath set up for soaking your butt in - it's nice for after bowel movements too to keep everything cleansed and cut back on irritation.

Are your bowel movements regular and very soft?

It sounds like these have been going on long enough that it's worth a trip to the GI doc for a consult.  They can give you info if the surgery is worth it or not.
