Alcohol

by Dhina, Jul 20, 2001 12:00AM
I was diagnosed with Hep A during 1st week of May and recovered within 10 days. As adviced by my family physician (general) i am out of alcohol completely for almost three months
My second blood test showed everything normal (including Bilirubin) within 15 days of my recovery.

I am getting conflicting answers on resumption of alcohol, would appreciate if someone could have answers

1. Is there a possibility of relapse of Hep A due to Alcohol consumption after 3 months ?

2. some say you should consume after 6-12 months

thanks and regards

I'm on the exact same situation as you.
I can't find anyone who can give me a precise answer.

you'll find a giant thread on this subject, right on this same page...this way you can sift through all the varying opinions, and see what laymen say, although many are very educated laymen...we don't all agree on this subject, which is abundantly clear, ha ha ha! but like most things you should talk to your doctor first and foremost, we can only augment those opinions.... I think I remember one of you posting about Hepatitis A, not all these hepatitis diseases are alike in terms of their overall protocols...with me I think, if you have hepatitis c, you shouldn't drink alcohol, for the most part, if you don't have it, bottoms up!

And if you read that thread, you'll see I'm taking a big risk just saying that much, lol....so I'll leave it at that...hope you find the answers you need...

Between 3 and 6 months after you become infected with the virus, antibodies develop that will give you lifelong protection (immunity) against HAV infection. The antibodies can always be detected in your blood, indicating that you were once infected with the hepatitis A virus.
You should talk to your Dr. If I was in your in your shoes, if I drank at all for another 3 months, it would be moderatly. At the end of 6 months. I would find a desinated driver. But thats me.

Most of the answers you will probably get here relate to Hep "C" because that is what most of us have or had. Hep "A" is a totally different animal. For that reason, the best person to ask this question to is a liver specialist (hepatologist). They treat all the different forms of Hepatitis. Of course, if you want to see an adult food fight, stick around, because that is what alcohol threads here usually turn into.

Hope it all works out.
