Concerned... false positive?

by kylee_k, May 19, 2009 11:33PM
I recently went to my local free health clinic for a pap and birth control. I got tested for all diseases and std's three months before at my previous appointment and was suppose to be called if anything came out positive. I went in worry free because I'd gotten no phone calls only to find out I tested positive for Herpes type 1 which I knew because I get cold sores and then to my HUGE surprise I was positive for Hepatitis A. I had no clue what it even really was only that it wasn't as bad or the same as type C. I asked her what it was and she never did go on to explain it to me and simply asked if I'd be vaccinated for it or noticed yellowing of my eyes or skin. I answered no to both questions, she implied to me that it may have been a false positive and left the room almost as if to check something but then never said anything else about it and went on with the rest of my appointment. After my pap and new birth control pills she sent me on my way. I realized after I'd left she never retested me for Hep A or even told me anything about it including the likely hood of spreading it to my partner or even if it was truly of false positive, she basically told me I was positive for a disease that people have died from and then left me to freak out about it. Shouldn't I have been informed about an illness if I have it or at least been warned about passing it on to others or even given some idea of how I could have possibly gotten it or even how long I'd had it! Please help I don't even know what to do with myself, do you think it may have been a false positive, is that even possible, should she have retested me, was she professional with the way she went about this? Also how can I have it with ZERO signs and symptoms, I looked it up online and I have non of the symptoms and haven't even had a cold of a flu in forever.
