Cozes of Increased SGPT § SGOT even after 6 mnths of having recovered frm HEP A

by Tazzia, Mar 02, 2004 12:00AM
What could be the causes of increased SGPT ( 78 ) and SGOT ( 37 ) level after having had Jaundice ( Hep A ) from the month of July , 2003 and having recovered in August , 2003. I am 20 , female.....Feel fine , bilurubin level is normal but my SGPT and SGOT levels are still raised which is worrying me. What could be the causes ? Does sex with a guy ( oral / anal ) have anything to do with it ? What else could be the causes ? It's been over 6 months and they have still not returned to normal. I don't drink and have been very careful about the food i eat and the water i drink . My main worry is does sex have anything to do with it ? My partner does not have any of these problems. Then why is it still raised ?

Only a doctor could answer why your numbers are up but having sex would definitely not have anything to do with that.

there are several things that could be going on with your liver.the blood test shows the liver cells are dieing for some reason. it could be medications your on, it could be a hepatitus (hepatitis) virus again (a,b,c), it could be too much iron in your liver where the liver isn't working right to get rid of iron. it could be fatty liver disease, NASH or autoimmune hepatitus (hepatitis)...and there are probably more.

the only way to find out is to investigate it. get a biopsy of the liver and/or blood tests and scans etc... to explore why this would be happening. you can get hepatitus (hepatitis) from anal sex easier than regular because of bleeding possibilities. only your dr. or a GI will be able to help you get to the bottom of this. it is very important to find out as soon as possible. i hope and pray you get the answers soon. let us know. sandi

Hey thanks for your reply.
I'm not on any medication as such. Was having a medicine called liv 52 which is directly for the liver. My doc has asked me to stop it now. I've been asked to go in for my blood test for SGPT and SGOT again after 2 weeks. If the level drops well and good , if it doesn't then it's gonna be bad I guess.Just hope it falls. As for anal sex , my guy and I hardly indulge in that , plus when we have , I've never bled. And apart from oral we don't really indulge in risky stuff. SO i just really wanted to rule that out. Yes , I too hope it's all back to normal in the next 2 weeks.
Thanks so much for your fast reply.
