Lifelong Immunity?

In 1968, I had Hepatitis A. Several doctors have run "Hepatitis
screens" to make sure that I didn't have a fulminating type that could later cause big problems. All three Hepitis screens came back negative. (I gather they weren't looking for A) I also was vacinated against Hepitis B since I work in a hospital.
Recently, about 20 miles away there was a massive outbreak of Hepatitis A. Does infection with A confer lifelong immunity? Or do the antibodies wear off after so many years?
Also, since A is spread enterically and not by blood or body fluids, why can't Hepatitis A victims donate blood?

Once you've had Hep-A your body develops antibodies & you can't get Hep-A again ... just the same way you are immune to a few other childhood diseases ...</font>
