Pegintron - Redipen users

by GoodByeHepC, Jun 05, 2008 10:02AM
I wanted to see how many are on this form of peg and to see what dosage you've been prescribed and your body weight?

Thanks

I used the redipen for the first 4 weeks of tx (now in week 9 and have been changed to Pegasys)

I weighed around 200 lbs at start of tx and dialed in the highest number on the dosing button....I think it was .5 if I remember correctly

by nygirl7, Jun 05, 2008 12:11PM
And I weighed 120 and used the .5 as well.

Wake up, folks! .5 is the amount of fluid in the pen. How much interferon was there in your pens: 80, 100, 120 or 150 micrograms?

As an example:
If you have the 100 mcg pen and you dial it to 0.5 ml, you get the full 100 micrograms.
If you dial it to 0.4 you get 80% of 100 mcg which is 80 mcg interferon.

If you have the 120 mcg pen and dial it to 0.5 ml, you get 120 mcg.
If you dial it to 0.4 you get 80% of 120 mcg which is 96 mcg.

At start of tx I weighed 67 kg (147 lbs) and was on 100 mcg PegIntron. I gained weight during tx, and when I hit 75 kg (167 lbs) my PegIntron was increased to 120 mcg at week 40 of 72.

Sorry, that should be "when I hit 76 kg (167 lbs) my PegIntron was increased to 120 mcg".

Oh...ok....I'm awake now.

Put me down for 150 mcg dialed to .5 at 200 lbs.

The redi pen always was (and I guess still is) a little confusing to me.

by nygirl7, Jun 05, 2008 01:36PM
I didn't like them at all - I found it was MUCH easier to get the peg tablets that you drop into the sterile water and then use a regular syringe for. Then not only did you not have to keep it in the fridge.....but I didn't have any mishaps with the pen jamming etc.

I'm thinking that I'm almost positive it was 120mcg dialed to .5 @ 120 pounds it's just been too long for me to remember anymore!

Isn't that wonderful, nygirl, that we are actually forgetting that stuff that was so etched in our minds before?

I did the redipen for tx the first 20wks and then because my insurance was canceled then Scherling sent me the powder vials for the remainder. Personally I liked the redipen. I was taking the 150mcg. The needle was smaller. I did not like to put the water in the vial and mix it up, draw it out, It brought back too many memories. Gross

It looks like I am being prescribed 120MCG Redipen I weight 145lbs. Does that seem to low? Genotype 2

Thanks everybody.
I appreciate you taking the time to post your info. It helps me confirm what I have suspected.
My Dr. under-dosed me and I'm not going to clear.
He refused to make adjustments even when I repeatedly expressed concerns.
He was vague about the details of this treatment from the get-go and it wasn't until week 10 that I had educated myself enough to realize what was going on.

His most recent argument was based on the IDEAL study where they supposedly had concluded that 1.0 mcg (per kilo of body weight)  of peginteron was as effective as 1.5 mcg per kilo. He insists that the official dosage recommendations will soon be changed. BS
I know there are many who have challenged that study and I realize that his argument is just another attempt to keep me on a low dose so he can harvest clean statistics for Schering. I'm convinced that there is a push to harvest low dose statistics.

I'm going to seek a second opinion from another doctor.

Can anyone in NYC recommend a good hepatologist NOT affiliated with Beth Israel?

Thanks

I wiegh 125 and take 80 mcg on the June 18th I get to find out if my virel load has gone down. The nurse from be in charge called Friday last and said if it hasnt my doctor would probably take me off. I said would they give me a higher dose first? She said they might. That is not true is it? I am on one of the lowest doses.

How about Dr. Douglas T. Dieterch at Mount Sinai. He is also answering questions on our forum now. Here is the link, it also has some info about him and contact phone and address.

I hope you'll get it sorted out.
