Positive in hepatitis A

by PikaPika88, Feb 21, 2008 07:22PM
My Hepatitis blood test came back as below:

Hepatitis A - Positive
Hepatitis B - Negative
Hepatitis C - Negative

Long time ago, back to late 1980, I had a vacination of Hepatitis B.  One stage, I had a fever with liver swell.  In 2005, Verapamil caused me very early stage fatty liver.  I stopped that, now my ultrasound said my liver is normal.  While my ultrasound said is normal but my LFT said my ALP, ALT and AST is elevated.  Very confuse.  Now the blood test said Hepatitis A is positive.  I don't know how I get that and when I got it?  Can my family members get infected too?  Would my liver damage by Hepatitis A?  Could Hepatitis A change into liver cancer?  I got pain down the right upper abdomen......  I am scare.

You didn`t mentioned is about an acute or past infection of hepatitis A?!
If you had IgM antibodies againts HAV in your blood and together with elevated enzymes thats means acute infection of hepatitis A. The way of transmission between family member is feco-oral. They should take very very rigorous hygiena. Hepatitis A can`t go into cancer. You should take rest and stay in touch with your doctor and make another investigation because you have a long history of liver suffering. Maybe is something else.

Thanks for the reply.  I don't know when I got that hepatitis A?  No one telling me anything!  The report said Hepatities A - Positive.  The GP said "Yes" you have hepatities A....... but not B and not C.  The actual GI Dr who ordered the test and not even mention.  Blow like a wind or like a bubble "pop"!  Where I should follow up and with who?

I think you should talk with an gastroenterohepatologist. He must know the answer, when he will see all your tests in the past and maybe he will make another tests. Good luck.
