Hi everyone,,,,Well,,,Hubby finished up this weekend and we both did our labs yesterday,,,blood count, liver enzymes and the viral count. I finish up after next Sunday.  I know this sounds weird,,,,But I'm kinda scared to quit the meds.  Of course,,,I can't wait to feel normal again but I guess I'm really afraid that the virus might come back and as long as I'm on meds,,,I know I'm virus free...Does anyone have these feelings?  My husband does not,,,He is so happy,,,He is throwing out pill boxes and practically dancing, haha  He says he doesn't even think about that which is great,,,,I guess I just am feeling mixed emotions about the whole finishing up thing.  Yesterday,,,Our dr gave us kinda a talk on coming off the meds. He told us that soon after stopping,,,we would both have a well being kinda feeling.  Sounds wonderful to me LOL  Said to be careful of course of eating because alot of people feel so great and can smell again and taste,,,they eat alot and then he has seen some gain as much as 50lbs in 3 months.  We are both quite thin and need to gain some back but sounds like we may have to kinda watch it also.

Honey, I posted the same thing when I was close to finishing tx.I was scared to death to quit, being as I relapsed once already. Then after tx the first week I felt great and the second week it hit me hard.( I wanted to beg my doctor to let me go back on the meds ) but, I got over that feeling real quick though. I think it is quite normal to have those types of feelings after all we have gone through. Good luck to you.

I was also stressed out over going off the meds. They were my safety net after being on them so long. I would have extended longer if the doc had let me.  It throws us into the lap of possible failure ~ tough stuff to deal with mentally.  BUT....it also throws us into possible success!! There's where we have to focus.  I wish you and your hubby the very best!

I was so scared to quit that after 72 wks at full dose, I did two more weeks at 1/2 dose interferon. Without the Riba I hardly felt I was on meds. Then I figured that 74 wks of any meds was enough of a haul and finally let go.
At 48 wks, I felt crappy but knew I should be able to handle 24 more, the last two months dragged on so slow, and still, at 72 I could not let go of the "security blanket".  I am now waiting for the 5 wk post test.
If you feel you had given it enough, then let go. If your fear is such that is overwhelming, talk to the dr about doing a few more, or use your leftovers if any...the riba was the main killer for me. I will donate my last bottle to my doctor's office.
best to you in your decission.

Congratulations to hubby (and soon to you, too) on making it the distance. To do so is no small accomplishment and you both should be very proud. It's very much normal to feel a sense of security while being on tx and testing clear. And then realizing that once tx ends, a different set of variables and unknowns now faces you. On a personal note, my first 'meds-free' day will be this upcoming Sunday. Having failed tx once before, I am trying to keep an even keel this time and hoping to focus mainly on my recovery from the meds. Do I have concerns about making it to SVR or relapsing once again? You betcha. But I'm hoping to approach each round of upcoming testing with the thought that no matter what the result, it's all in God's hands.

I hope that both of your recoveries go well, that you are quickly back to normal (and better) and that SVR is right around the corner for you both.

Congratulations to you and your hubby for crosssing the finish line. What an accomplishment you two have made together, really something to be proud of! There were naysayer's out there, about treating together, weren't there?? (like I was advised). You showed them girl........incredible!!!!

I was like your husband when it came time for me to quit the regime, threw everything out and never looked back. You'll be fine, move on with your lives, pray for the best and carry a tune in your heart.

Thanks everyone,,,,I know this is just one more step to be through with this but sometimes the anxiety can be a bit much.

Dollface,,,I have been thinking of you and can't wait to hear your news of SVR....

Ambush,,,Great to hear from you and so glad you are free and clear! Thanks for all your encouragement!

Cuteus,,,Yep its a tough decision and I have plenty of meds but think after 52 sunday,,,,I'm putting it down.

TnHep,,,Thanks again and yes,,,,I hate the next round that you and me are approaching but all part of the game. I pray in 3 months,,,I will see the flashing bulletin for you,,,"SVR"  haha sounds sweet huh?

Mattie,,,That means alot to me,,,,and yes,,,I'm going to put the meds down and not look back.  You,,,Lady,,,have been one to endure the most struggles life could possibly throw your way and strong,,,,That you are!  I hope 2005 is bringing you and your hubby much peace and great health!
