hepatitis a and alcohol consumption

hi.
i had hepatitis a during the month of december.  by the second week of january my jaundice was gone and i was feeling almost back to normal.  while i was sick i wasn't drinking any alcohol, but once i started feeling better, i resumed my usual 1-2 glasses of wine per evening.  a friend of mine recently told me about someone she knows who had hep a and was told by his doctor not to drink any alcohol for one year.  neither of two doctors i saw regarding my hepatitis infection said anything about alcohol use.  question 1: do i need to abstain for a while?  another alcohol-related experience that has me confused is that on two separate occassions since january, i've had 4 glasses of wine while out with friends.  the next morning i was vomitting (normally 4 glasses of wine would just give me a headache).  question 2: could it be that my liver is still compromised and isn't able to metabolize the toxins like it did before the hep a infection?
thanks in advance for anwering my questions.

lisa

I just got diagnosed with Hep A this past monday(today is thursday).  It's been about two weeks since i felt sick and one week since i got diagnosed, but the not drinking is already killing me.  I get blood tested again in 2 weeks to check my liver levels and again a month after that.  The doctor said no alcohol until i get tested again to make sure my liver can handle liquor...basically i wouldn't push it, why just have one glass when that could set you back a whole month of waiting?  It ***** royally but you gotta do what you gotta do.  I just hope i don't have to wait more than a month to drink, my last semester in college and I can't even have 1 beer!! good luck guys

I have been infected with the Hepatitus A infection. The doctor at the hospital said I shouldnt drink alcohol until the infection is gone. Since I was dispatched I drank without the advice from doctors but I have been taking it easy. I didnt vomit the next day, I guess I was feeling fine. However, when I was infected first time with Hep A I vomitted heaps until I was dry reaching for about once or twice every hour (before visiting or recieving any medical help).
I had an appointment after 3-4 weeks later and the doctor then saw my blood test results, said it was fine, but levels of something (I didnt understand) was high and that was from drinking 1 or 2 beers within the week before the blood test. Funny thing was the doctor was Hindu Indian (judging by the religion of the mark on her forehead and crossed her self like a christian, for my sake after telling her that I had consumed alcohol since dispatch. So really you should abstain until you see your doctor again (maybe a month) and by then they should judge it by your blood test reults (if they request one which you should ask for one through your General Practioner). Your liver is still infected with the Hep A so it wont be able to handle the toxins until it is gone (they say it may take one month to 6 months). I guess Im still infected but for me Im taking it easy drinking alcohol.

Hope this answers your question and gives you some idea from another point of view.
