Antibodies to Hepatitis B Core (anit-HBc)

by mello, Mar 05, 2002 12:00AM
I donated blood with the American Red Cross in mid February, and just received my test results today.  All the results came back negative, but one...

Though I tested negative for "Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HGsAg, EIA)," I did test positive for  "Antibodies to Hepatitis B Core (anti-HBc) (test includes total IgG and IgM)."

Can you please describe what these results mean?  Have I been exposed to Hepatitis B without contracting the virus?  Should I seek further Hepatitis B testing from my doctor?

Thank you so much for your help!
