Fibroscan in January 2012 shows healthy liver

I was at the doctor in February after the second test he said that with my level of HBV-DNA and with no liver damage I do not need any treatment. All I need is to check ALT/AST, HbsAg, HBVDNA once a three month and fibroscan twice a year. So my questions are:
1) Is it not really possible to clear off the invection, I noticed that HBV-DNA fell quite sharp, maybe it is a good time to take some medicine?
2) I am worried about high levels of cholesterol. Is it because of the infection? I am on a healthy diet with low cholesterol (fruits, vegs, fish, meat once a week, no sugar), I am athletic, swim 3 times a week quite intensively, very moderate alcohol, no smoking. According to my life style the cholesterol must be much lower! I am worried that with such cholesterol level I will develop atherosclerosis very soon, my father just had a stroke being a pretty healthy person for his age (no HBV). Do I need to take any drugs to decrease the cholesterol levels?

there is also a study posted time ago in this board, they increased vitd25oh to optimum levels 80-90ng/ml plus omega 3, exsercise/diet and they could obtain hdl to very high 80-90 but as long as you can keep it 50 or higher it is ok

if your hbsag is really 500iu/ml you can clear it by interferon, ntz and simvastatin can only help interferon response and not work as monotherapy at all

also lowering cholesterol doesn t work because hbv uses cholesterol in the cells (intracellular chol) not serum chol.

hbv does change chol pathways and hbsag carriers have higher risk of diseases linked to this but you have to look to ldl and hdl fractions and much less tot chol, as long as hdl is high you are protected, in latest easl studies also proved an antiviral effect of high hdl keeping hbvdna lower or und
vit d serum levels 50-80ng/ml have also impact on chol pathways when not too high and increase hdl especially if combo with fish oil with dha and epa at least 1-2g (very few products on the market) so i good diet with fish or very good supplements and high d3 can help keep liver healthier and respond better to intf but only intf has shown to clear hbv not all the rest

check otan posts and you may clear hbsag in 16 to 48 weeks, when hbsag is und vaccine is needed is hbsab doesn t rise

I think your doctor is right, your cholesterol is not that high for taking the statins.. Maybe you are a little hysteric, I was the same on the begining. However, you can always check another doctor. I am not sure that cholesterol has something in common with HBV, especially when your liver is still ok. Just try to do 30 min par day any aerobic activity.. Also try to eat a fresh onion, halp of the onion per day, you can put it to the green salad or tomato salad. After one month of this onion diet check your cholesterol again, you will see the progress.

Thank you David!
Actually my HDL is increasing together with total Cholesterol and the fraction of HDL has even relatively decreased, that is not so good.

Since my HbsAg is below 500IU/ml, I thought it could be a good idea to prescribe me Nitazoxanide and statins. The first is to fight the virus and the second is to limit its fuel. Maybe this will lead to seroconversion.

But doctors in Russia are not aware of Nitazoxanide (not even sold here). They say that cholesterol level is not so high to start statins, statins have some bad side effects and no guaranty that the virusload will not increase after I stop statins.

Will go to another doctor next week ...

Your doctor is right, there is no reason to start threathing of HBV when there is no liver demage... just keep it under the control.. No reason to hurry up, you will enjoy one day the threatment probably, dont hurry, but dont drink the alcohol. The high cholesterol can be a part of it, but musnt. I had a high cholesterol even before HBV infection... It can be genetic... You just ask your doctor, he can prescribe you the pills against cholesterol if it is necessary. But if I see well your HDL cholesterol - a good cholesterol - is increasing... Not always the bad cholesterol is bad. It depends to the proportion of HDL and LDL, if I am not wrong.. But better to ask you doctor.
