Chronic hep b

Hi,
I hope someone can give me advice to calm my nerves. First of all I have no idea where I got hep b.
I never did IV drugs, drank only during teenage and early adult years. I have had only a couple of boyfriends. I am 50 now and was so healthy, not drinking, eating right and exercising for such a long time until I got run down during the holidays and from what I thought was the flu. I was just called by my doctor's office to say that I am Chronic Hep B. I am devastated with this news. I was in the hospital 6 weeks ago 1-9-15 because I turned yellow. I thought I had a terrible flu that went off and on for about 4 weeks. Then my AST, ALT and Bilirubin levels were very high in the hospital. My viral load was 2760. They said I hade acute hep b. I had my blood drawn at my doctor visit 2-27-15.  Now my AST and ALT are normal, my bilirubin is down but high at 2.2. The doctor's office now said from my blood work from my last appointment 2-27-15  that my hep b surface antigen is positive and my hep b core antibody is negative. The viral load results have not come back yet. So, I called to see a specialist and can't get in until April 24th. I am feeling a lot better but am now so frightened with this call from the doctor since before I was told I am acute hep b. Not sure what to do with this long wait to see the specialist. Any suggestions. I can't sleep I am so worried.

Romrose, I was there. I'm a little younger than you by about 15 years but I basically went through the same thing you went through. Never did IV drugs, barely drank, had unprotected sex once in my life (never knew if she had Hep B or not but it was with a girlfriend), etc. They told me at first I was acute too, especially since my Viral Load was increasing. Turns out, I was chronic. Almost all chronic carriers have the virus passed on from their mother. Unfortunately, mine has passed on so I could not ask her.

Keep at the doctor's appointments and I'd suggest getting in to see a Hepatologist ASAP. They will be able to draw more conclusions. If you're results are a chronic case, they can put you on treatment. I'm glad you feel better but don't lose any sleep. I did for almost an entire week... because I never knew what was wrong with me. Eventually, I put it in my head that not sleep will not solve the issue at hand so I started to sleep. Also, read up about some of the stuff on this board. In particular, about Vitamin D. Chances are you are deficient in Vitamin D as well.

luckman316,
Thank you so much for your reply. So, my first Hepatilogist appointment is April 24th. That was their earliest opening. So long to wait. My family doctor sent an email to try to get in earlier and I was put on their cancellation list. Not sure what to do until then. You never mentioned how your treatment is going and where you are at with your numbers?

Looks like acute HBV. Did you have any exposure lately like acupuncture ? Anything that can transferred blood to your body.

With all acute infection, your immune system should get rid of the virus in 6 months or less.

Like luckyman said, please take some Vit D3 supplements. Good luck !

I thought the same thing that I was acute. So I asked my family doctor why she thought I was chronic and how could she know since there is no way telling if I had it for 6 months? She said she rechecked and it is definitely chronic and is waiting for my results for the viral load now. I am so sick about this I cannot function isn't cannot sleep. So worried.

Oh and forgot to answer you - no acupuncture or blood transfer I can think of.

Hi there,

Then it could be chronic. When is the last time you got tested for a blood test, for eg, for general check-up and well being?

I would not panic but I guess we all here did when we first found out about our circumstances. HBV can be controlled but you might feel outcast as a carrier.

Any detail you can give about your life? Where were you born, nationality? and how high was the ALT, AST?
