Do I need treatment?

I am 54 years old Asian-American.
According to my blood test, everything is normal except HBV DNA.
Ultrasound is normal.
Alpha-Petoprotein 2.8  (<6.1 ng/ml)
GGT 28
AST 21
ALT 34
HBV DNA 500000000 H ,100 IU/ml

Some doctor sugggested me to have just test in every three months.
Thank you.
Other told me to have treatment-taking antiviral medication (Viread).
Which is better to me?

Yes i also recommend you to ask your doctor about liver biopsy. My doctor said there's no other way  to really  tell how bad is your liver other than a liver biopsy. I'm having one on Jan. 2009.  Its only an  outpatient procedure , It depends which country you are.

At 54 years old I think you need to consider treating regardless of e-antigen status.  That's assuming that you, like many Asians, were infected at or shortly after birth.  Is a biopsy in your future?  That could help settle the question.

What's your eAntigen and eAntibody status?  This is important in terms of deciding on treatment.

You may still be in immune tolerant stage.

Maybe you can have liver panel to confirm that.

If right, you may turn HBeAg negative without treatment thereby avoiding resistance headache.
