Extremely Jaundice!

Extremely Jaundice!

My husband was diagnosed Hep B positive July 18 of this year. He was already yellow for a week before he went to the hospital. that is about 5 weeks and its not getting any better.
He has lost 25 lbs. he is always running a fever, he is hot to the touch. He is always tired, which I know that is caused by the virus. The doctor hasn't checked his enzyme levels in two weeks and they were extremely high along with his bilirubin and protime. Im worried that this virus is doing more damage. What would cause his levels to still be so high and shouldnt they be checked more often? Why is he getting more yellow by the day??Please help me to help him before he gives up!! Please what can I do? Diets? Home remedies? Im desperate to help him!

                                   Thank you

I have hep b though not as severe as your husbands. my liver levels were in the 3000's when i was diagnosed. the key is rest and rest and rest and rest. no stres. no booze ,no listerine,no sugar alchols, stay out of the sun, and they will return to normal soon. it took about three months for my levels to retrun to normal.

I had acute hepatitis C in the late 60's with fever, yellow skin (jaundice), dark urine, fever, etc. It took three months of bed rest until I started feeling half normal again. I would assume if your husband is still in the hospital he's being properly monitored --  but if you're unhappy, ask for a second opinion. As far as diet goes, try food supplements like Ensure if he's losing too much weight and make sure he keeps his fluid intake up.

We don't have any doctors here and most of us are treating for hepatitis c which has different characteristics. There is a "gastroenterology " forum on this site where you might pose the same question to a medical doctor. Two other doctor monitored sites are: http://www.hcvinprison.org/forum_new/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=2
and http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/Hepatitis/

Hope your husband feels better and that he gets he care he needs.  Having a supportive spouse like yourself is a big help. Keep in touch and let us know how things work out.

Thanks so much for responding so quickly! He is not in the hospital and they told him to drink at least a gallon of water a day and get lots of sunshine. But nothing seems to make him feel any better. He looks and feels bad and it scares me so much. Im glad i found this site . Thank you so much for the support!!!!!!!!!!

please try this site i give you...you will need to sign in but it's free and they are so sweet and knowledgable about liver disease there...it's the "Liver Failure Support Group" at delphi forums. address your note to "IMKINDLY" she is the group leader and has tons of information on liver disease and complications, and especially the associated problems with end stage liver disease...i know she has alot on jaundice!

also try www.hepatitisneighborhood.com
there is cat room and ask the nurse section hope it helps. and i hope your husband feels better.  I had hep c.  and cleared the virus.. but never got the point of jaundice. I can only imagine how bad he must be feeling. keep him hydrated and ice cream anything he can hold down.

Best of luck

i have been diagnosed with hep b in 2006 and i have been going to some check ups every 6-12 months,in january 2009,i went for an MRI scan and my liver was fine but an incidental cyst was discovered on my right kidkey that scared me a lot but the doctor told me its nothing to worry bout..at this moment,i have some minor abdominal pains and my eyes are always itchy and painful,I try to stay possitive and I am a happy man,my advice is GO FOR AN MRI scan, its better than X-ray scan,as it reveals tinny traces or tummers in the liver..God bless your husband and together we will fight this deadly desease..

which country are you?it looks they have no tests and machines to check what is happeing, acute hbv is usaully benigne as adult and only a very small percentage like 1% get it very severe to be fulminant

just check liver function and all virus markers, if you like post them here so that we might tell you if he is in good hands or ignorant doctors
