HEP-B TESTING

Hello, I had unprotected sex (man on man) in late July 31 2007. I got tested for hepatitis ABC in January 11th 2008.
Test Results :
Hepatitis A IGM antibody = non-reactive
Hepatitis B Surface antigen with conformation = non-reactive
Hepatitis B Surface antigen = non-reactive
Hepatitis B Core IGM antibody = non-reactive
Hepatitis C Antibody (refl) = non-reactive

Ast = 38
Alt = 59
Bun = 14
Albumin = 4.9

I am 20 years old 180lbs 5'9. I am still having pain on my right side and i was just worrying that it might still be Hepatitis B. I got tested for hiv twice once 2.5 months and 5 months after exposure and both were -. I was just wondering for hepatitis if there is a window period like hiv (3months) where the virus may not be detected by tests. My liver test was 6 months after exposure do you think they are reliable? My right side still hurts....
Thanks for the help!

During the period after which HBsAg has cleared but anti-HBs has not yet become detectable is called the "window period".  When your anti-HBs shows reactive, you are safe from HepB.

Hepatitis B Surface antigen = non-reactive

This means you don't have HepB.

But your ALT is slightly elevated, what did your doctor say about your ALT ?

Why would my ALT be elevated if i dont have hep b =/ I really hope i dont have it..... All my tests were non-reactive 6 months after the test? Im a little confused on what all the tests mean? Is hepatitis b antigen and hepB antigen w/ conformation the same thing? Im really confused on what all these tests mean. Can someone decode them for me ? And my possiblity you guys think i have hepb?

ALT could be elevated for various reasons, such as using alcohol, various injuries, sstrength training, taking tylenol, and others.

ALT is primarily an enzyme in the liver, when there is liver cell damage, it leaks into your blood.

Since you have pain in your liver area, past sexual risk, and elevated ALT, perhaps it would be wise to test again.  Why guess.  Ask your doctor to get to the bottom of it.

There's only one HepB surface antigen.  If negative or non-reactive, then you don't have HepB.  Good luck.

Good luck.

Your ALT could be elevated for any number of reasons.  High BMI or being overweight.  Alcohol use or use of NSAIDs before the test.  Who knows.  Your test are non-reactive 6 months following your exposure so its all good as far as Hep B is concerned.   The specificity of either surface antigen test seems irrelevant as they both show you don't have Hep B. Find out why your ALT is slightly elevated.

My post above answers your question about HepB waiting period.

Whether or not you have hepatitis B depends on your HBsAg and hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) status.  HBsAg-positivity beyond 6 months means you have chronic Hepatitis B, presence of anti-HBs means you are immune.  Your test results above seem to indicate that you do not have Hepatitis B.  Please consult your doctor for accuracy.

good day to you guys i want to know about my laboratory test cause its really bother me a lot my first blood test it says there that my SGPT/ALT is 42.00 U/L from the range of 0.00 - 31.00 the doctor says its ok its not that bad then to make it sure i got my second laboratory test and its hepatitis panel and this is the result HBsAg w/ Titer (ECLIA) 0.4...

HBsAg w/ Titer (ECLIA)  0.419          C.O.V  1.000      non - reactive
Means you DON'T have HepB.  Congrats.

Anti HBs (ECLIA)          <2.00   IU/L  C.O.V  10.000    non - reactive
Means you are NOT immune, get vaccinated.  Especially since you live in a very high risk area.
