Hep B- HBEAG Neg inquiry

Hi I am new year in this forum.  Last year my husband was diagnosed w/ chronic Hep B, as a result he is not allowed to work and stay here in UAE. His Lab results are as follows:
December 2008:
HBSAG- 5340
HBSAB- 0
HBEAG-.08
HBV- 760

He started then taking lamivudine in January 2009.

March 2009
HBSAG- 5670

July 2009
HBSAG- 5800
HBEAG- .09
HBV- Negative

He has normal range in all of his liver tests.

Please answer below qestions:
1. What does it mean with increasing HBSAG count though he is already taking up the medicine?
2. I understand that all starts with positive HBSEG, while his result seems have a trend from negative to positive HBSEG. Is this a good or bad sign?
3. I have read in one of the articles that when you have a negative HBSEG, lifetime medication is required, so, if he will have a positive HBSEG, when will his medication ends (intake of lamivudine)?

By the way, he is Asian.

Thank you for your time.

I do not understand your reports. Can you please quote them as you find them? Test names, units, reference ranges, etc.

This will help you get started with some basic info:
http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Hepatitis/HepB-Introduction--Welcome-Page/show/34?cid=153

What are his viral loads? What about his ALT? Without this info, it may not even be a good idea to start medication! If you can afford other medicines, lamivudine is one of the worst to start with.
