Hep B Carrier

Hi I am new to this forum and I am a Hep B Carrier. I went in yesterday to check my DNA test and see how bad my virus is replicating and also to check if i am chronic or inactive. Here is a little about my self and my concerns

1. I am of Chinese decent born in the USA , 31 years old and my mom has hepatitis B and she is a chronic carrier and currently on barraclude. This makes me believe I was born with Hep B.

2. I currently do not have medical insurance that will cover my prescription medications as my insurance is only for hospital visits. Are there any companies or free clinics that will help you with medications and doctors for yearly check ups?

3. I am also concerned since I have been diagnosed with Hep B I can no longer buy insurance and will get declined everywhere I go. Has anyone had success with a insurance company that will take heb b carriers?

Thank you for reading and your responses. God Bless

1- yes for an asian , you may have been born with it..people born with hepB need to take extra care of themselves specially the older they get ( i,e..more frequent ultra sounds, maybe a liver biopsy etc..)

2&3  you may be denied but most company will probably acept you with a highhhhh premuim. one way is to never mention  anything about hepB ( yes lying , that is..im not sugesting it but its one way). an existing condition is no longer pre existing after two years but you will need to have the same insurance for two years before u can report your hepB condition. another way like mentioned above is if you work for a company and your employer offers insurance . company insurance doesnt abide by the pre existing thing  you can benifit from that as well.
bristo myers will offer you a medical program. its cheap and will cost from you zero dollar to maybe 10 , 20 or maybe 200 depending on your marital status, dependants, W2 for the previous year etc...i would call them and apply for their program but i do think maybe i am 100% sure that this prigram must be done trough your gastreonologist or doctor.. so i would suggest seeing a doctor , explaining to him the current financial situation and they will take it from there.

no offense to our far asian friends on here but unless you know what you're getting from overseas i wouldnt suggest buying mes overseas.. u can be sent vitamins or a pill fo rheadache for all they care..i would just make sure if i were you..maybe if you hae friends overseas that can assist you with this task

good luck

Do you receive insurance through your employer?

Generally, you cannot be denied coverage based on a pre-existing condition if you change employers and enroll in their health insurance plan w/n 60 days following the expiration of your previous coverage.

Also, Bristol-Myers Squibb has a financial assistance program you may want to check out:

Hopefully, Obama's health plan will pass and you won't have to worry about pre-existing conditions at all.

Good luck!

As long as it is genuine medicine, I do not think there is any change. BTW - I never tried this, but I heard it from few people the potency is the same.

I have another question with medication in China. Since we have the FDA in the USA will the medication in China be different than the one that is currently prescribed in the USA. Since the medication is made by a US company will they change the medication for China?

1. First let the results come in and please post them - one of the forum members will help you.

2. If you want to take anti-viral-medicines, unfortunately they are going to cost a lot here in US. However see if you can travel to China or India and get the same medicines at a fraction of cost (sorry guys - if this suggestion offends anyone) or you have a family who could send them to you. I do not know whether this is against the law - so please find out before trying.

3. This I do not believe is true. Even if it is, see if you can join a family members plan as a dependent.

Good luck to you and your mother.
