Hep B Test Results

Just curious about these labs. Dr is "baffled" because I don't have elevated AST/ALT and I have had no logical way to have contracted Hep B in the past.
For the second time (he restested) Hep B Core Ainitobdy IGM was "reactive, Hep B Surface Antigen Negative..he said that indicateds a recent infection but can't figure out how/why...is referring me to a Gastroenterologist..any ideas?? All my other tests were perfect..Liver ultrasound perfect..GGT's normal..any clues???

Thanks much

Sounds like you are in the process of clearing an acute HBV infection.

During the process of clearing an acute infection, there is a “window period” that occurs after the disappearance of HBsAg and before developing anti-HBsAg where the only markers that are detectable are the core antibodies.

It sounds like you are now in this “window period”. A retest in a few months may show the Igm negative and anti-HBsag positive indicating that you have resolved the infection.

It can take around 6 months to completely clear an acute infection, but it looks like you are well on your way to clearing it….it just takes time. So eat healthy and treat your body right and you should soon see the appearance of Anti-HBsAg and thus immunity for life.

Best of luck.

When were these labs done apart?

You have no HBV now, but sometime ago HBV may have invaded you and you have cleared it.
