Oh yes, there is no confirmation that you can get Hep from saliva and tears.
Eating and/or drinking after other people I don't do because it is just not sanitary.

I have to agree with Teko on this one.  It is not spread through just blood and sex.  There are countless examples of documented cases where it spread through other means.

Maybe the site where I got the earlier information is outdated? Sorry... The following should be a reliable source of information as it is from the CDC. Personally, I would trust that site over any other. My best friend had hep c which turned into liver cancer and she passed a way last year. I would only say again, that they have vaccines for types A and B. Well worth the investment I would say.

This is a copy and paste from that site, much more information there if ya want to take a look see.

Transmission, Symptoms, and Treatment
How is HBV transmitted?

HBV is transmitted through activities that involve percutaneous (i.e., puncture through the skin) or mucosal contact with infectious blood or body fluids (e.g., semen, saliva), including

    * Sex with an infected partner
    * Injection drug use that involves sharing needles, syringes, or drug-preparation equipment
    * Birth to an infected mother
    * Contact with blood or open sores of an infected person
    * Needle sticks or sharp instrument exposures
    * Sharing items such as razors or toothbrushes with an infected person

HBV is not spread through food or water, sharing eating utensils, breastfeeding, hugging, kissing, hand holding, coughing, or sneezing.
How long does HBV survive outside the body?

HBV can survive outside the body at least 7 days and still be capable of causing infection.
What should be used to remove HBV from environmental surfaces?

Any blood spills — including dried blood, which can still be infectious — should be cleaned using 1:10 dilution of one part household bleach to 10 parts of water for disinfecting the area. Gloves should be used when cleaning up any blood spills.
Who is at risk for HBV infection?

The following populations are at increased risk of becoming infected with HBV:

    * Infants born to infected mothers
    * Sex partners of infected persons
    * Sexually active persons who are not in a long-term, mutually monogamous relationship (e.g., >1 sex partner during the previous 6 months)
    * Men who have sex with men
    * Injection drug users
    * Household contacts of persons with chronic HBV infection

    * Healthcare and public safety workers at risk for occupational exposure to blood or blood-contaminated body fluids
    * Hemodialysis patients
    * Residents and staff of facilities for developmentally disabled persons
    * Travelers to countries with intermediate or high prevalence of HBV infection

Are international travelers at risk for HBV infection?

The risk for HBV infection in international travelers is generally low, except for certain travelers to regions where the prevalence of chronic HBV infection is high or intermediate (i.e., Hepatitis B surface antigen prevalence of ≥2%). Hepatitis B vaccination should be administered to unvaccinated persons traveling to those countries.

More information about Hepatitis B and travel is available from CDC's Travelers' Health site.
What are the signs and symptoms of HBV infection?

The presence of signs and symptoms varies by age. Most children under age 5 years and newly infected immunosuppressed adults are asymptomatic, whereas 30%–50% of persons aged ≥5 years have initial signs and symptoms. When present, signs and symptoms can include

    * Fever
    * Fatigue
    * Loss of appetite
    * Nausea
    * Vomiting

    * Abdominal pain
    * Dark urine
    * Clay-colored bowel movements
    * Joint pain
    * Jaundice

Persons with chronic HBV infection might be asymptomatic, have no evidence of liver disease, or have a spectrum of disease ranging from chronic hepatitis to cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma (a type of liver cancer).
What is the incubation period for Hepatitis B?

Symptoms begin an average of 90 days (range: 60–150 days) after exposure to HBV.

i fthe person is immune tollerant, that's to say hbvdna load in the millions there are reports of infection but it is anyway in a very low percentage, i have posted this previously in the forum but now i don't remember where the stydy article is

in anycase the only 100% security is getting vaccineted, in countries like mine where vaccination is mandatory at birth there is no hbv in people born after the 1991 or 92, that's the only smart thing to do, not asking how to get it

saliva? tears? drinking after an infected person? I think you got your information from very unreliable sources. Was it about.com?

WHO is a reliable place to learn from: http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs204/en/
So is CDC: http://www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/HBV/HBVfaq.htm#treatment

Teko pretty much covered the various ways.  You are asking about the pedicure/manicure situation; yes, you could if the instruments were contaminated with blood from someone with Hepatitis B and not cleaned.  Interesting, everyone who is Hep B + are not infectious.  Plus, this virus can live on surfaces for up to a week.

infected body fluids, such as blood, saliva, semen, vaginal fluids, tears, and urine
a contaminated blood transfusion (uncommon in the United States)
shared contaminated needles or syringes for injecting drugs
sexual activity with an -infected person
transmission from -infected mothers to their newborn babies

Hope this helps. To clarify, you can get it from drinking after an infected person and just imagine all the other ways. Very contagious.

It can be contracted thru sex but it can also be contracted thru transfusions, coming into contact with contaminated body fluids etc. As a fyi, there are also vaccinations for hep A and B.
