Hepatitis B Carrier

My boyfriend is an inactive Hepatitis B carrier.

I went to the doctor for a blood test.  The results: I was tested "Reactive" for hepatitis B surface antibody.
Also, I had completed the Hepatits B Vaccines about 14 years ago.  Am I safe enough to have unprotected sex now?  or should I go further testing for my immunity level to Hepatitis B and get a booster vaccine before unprotected sex.
Thanks for taking the time to read/reply!

There is no such thing as an inactive carrier, really.  With chronic Hep B the virus is always replicating.  Even if its at levels too low to count.  Anyone with CHB is considered infectious.  He does have the virus in his blood.

Can you ask the doctor to whom you went for the tests whether or not you should have unprotected sex?

Maria,

Your boyfriend  is an inactive carrier. He has the hepatitis B surface antigen but does NOT have virus in his blood.

Your positive test for hepatitis B surface antibody indicates IMMUNITY. It can occur because of your vaccination years ago or prior infection and recovery.

Therefore you do not need a vaccine.

Remember you can get other diseases and viruses from unsafe sex. So know what you are doing. A good partner is an educated partner.

By the way this is a Hep C forum. You may want to got over to the Hep B forum.
