Hepatitis B test results

My boyfriend  was recently tested while in a drug rehab for Hiv, Hepatitis and all other stds. He was released in the last week of Marchday and I am xclur Just 4 weeks ago he was remanded to jail and the day that he went in I  found papers which to me appear that his hep b tests came back positive and that he is infected. I then went to the clinic   to have myself tested and got the results back yesterdaay and I am completely clueless as to what these results mean, I am hoping someone could explain it to me in english. Is he infected? Am I ? Who gave it to who? I am leaving the results on this page asking for help ..... thanks so much.....

This is the last sheet after results... TwinRix(combined hep A & Hep B accine
recieved one dose on 4/03/08
next dose due on  5/03/08
3rd dose of vaccine to be administered on... October 3 2008

When my results came back the doctor told me that
Hep B Sur Ag     negative
Hep B Core        positive
The doctor the informed me that I needed to come back to the clinic asap to have a
serology done. . I am going back for the lab work on monday and have another appt set
up for sept 3rd.  
I'really need help in interpreting this stuff.... Thanks agsin..... Jodi K

You may have been infected by HBV.  You need to have a doctor follow you with tests and/or treatment.

The main marker to look at to determine if someone is infected is: HBsAg (Hep B Surface Antigen)

The first set of results (your boyfriends?) show that he does have HBV.

The second set of results (yours) show that you do not have HBV at this time. It looks like you have had it at some point in your life and your body has cleared it on its own ….so you should now be immune. Did they test you for HBsAb (Hep B surface antibodies)? The clinic probably wants you to return to test your for antibodies to confirm that you are immune.  95% of people infected as an adult will clear the virus on their own.
