I am so confused!!

10 yrs ago when having my first son at 19, a nurse comes in saying my baby would need a shot because i was hep b positive. This is all i was told. My doctors never went into it with me. I was 19 and didn't know anything about it. 5 yrs ago while having my 2nd son i told them about the prior diagnosis. They said they checked me and i was negative. Thats all i was told. A couple years ago i started developing signs of an autoimmune diseases. My current docs are running tests because i'm very sick. I just recently remembered the hep b diagnosis and i'm going to let them know. I just don't know it could be the issues since supposedly i was negative in 2008. I also wonder how long it can stay in you if its not chronic. I had been married 15 months when diagnosed and never cheated during marriage. Before marriage, yes. I also got a piercing 1 yr prior to diagnosis. Thats it. My husband was checked regularly through his job and never tested positive with anything.  There was one incident at work where a guy got his head split and my husband held his head with his coat to stop bleeding. At the same time, that guy would have also been checked for things through work. He says he never cheated, neither of us has ever did drugs. No tats, no surgeries. Could it have been a false posituve or i could have gotten it before marriage? I know its a long shot that this is it, but i'm so sick of being sick.

Thank you.  Actually it's just from lack of sleep. Which is from this mystery illness when i have flare ups i either dont sleep for days or i sleep many days without getting up. It's always one extreme to the next. This mystery illness caused me to miscarry in April so I've definitely been depressed and scared because i worry i won't be able to carry until i get this diagnosed. I may be grasping at straws but its because 3 yrs of this and i can't take any more and all the docs have no answers yet. I spent Feb-May and parts of june on bedrest because i had no strength. There are just so few answers but so many questions. Yes everybody is very helpful and supportive which is nice to see that. :-)  Even narrowing down what this is or isn't is a huge help.

Also i just had a light bulb moment. My husband was given all vaccinations so this would make sense that he didn't get it. And if i got it from my piercing it could have taken 12 months or more to clear up because for 9 of those months i was pregnant so I'm guessing my body was weakened and took longer to fight it off/run its course. Maybe I'm wrong about both but it kinda makes sense to me now. Sorry for all the randomness. No sleep in 3 days is getting to me lol.

Ok thank you. At least they will be able to tell me if i had hep b at one point. We will go from there and see what other things can be tested for. I have hypothyroidism,  diabetes and frequent hospitalizations for ketoacidosis even though my sugar is controlled, IBS, gerd, panic attacks and stress seizures. All the symptoms i have for autoimmune disease could totally fit different things so it's been a tough journey finding answers. I have had medical professionals thell me it could be fibromyalgia,  MS, Lupus, Celiac Disease, Sjogrens and chronic fatigue syndrome.  Nothing has been ruled out! I have no idea how my liver is but my kidneys aren't so good. I am going to make sure they do the proper blood tests. Give them a list of symptoms and the pics i've taken over the years of my weird bruising, swelling and rashes. I know something will surely pop up soon. I cant go on like this much longer. Again thanks for the help and advice about testing. If i did infact have hep b, at least my husband and kids do not. Thats really important to me.

If you had Hepatitis B previously and recovered, your ant-HBc should test positive (HbsAg should be negative). False positives, if any, in the past are not relevant because you were not treated. The main thing is getting a correct diagnosis for your present conditions, then you can get the appropriate treatment.

I have every single symptom of AIH. I just didn't know if the tests i had before would have been specific to hep b. Like each type has its own unique testing/results right? I know nothing about hep a, b, c or even AIH, thats why i am wondering about false positive.  I just dont know how i would have gotten it unless it could have been prior to 15 months but i dont think it works like that? I could see it being AIH, but that would mean i also had hep b at some point too. This is why i'm confused. My doc is booked for 2 solid months but my insurance runs out soon. I have other possible diseases it could be so i just want to be thorough.

Autoimmune Hepatitis and Hepatitis B are two very different diseases, even though they may share some symptoms, such as elevated ALT. However, Hepatitis B can be easily diagnosed with a simple blood test.
