Is Zeffix dangerous?

by bore, Nov 25, 2004 12:00AM
Hello,
my relative has HBsAg positive from 1985.At August 2004 he has newly diagnosed Myeloma Multiplex. He began treatment with Thalidomide and Dexamethasone at September 2004.
When the treatment began,he has HBsAg positive, but HbeAg negative and ALAT,ASAT,LDH,etc in referent range.A month later,he obtained very poor results:ALAT-846;ASAT-956;LDH-425,GGT-274,and HB DNA-750.After 5 days ot Zeffix  results are much more better-ASAT-213;ALAT-331;GGT-197;LDH-413.A liver specialist told him that he can continue thalidomide treatment if he gets Zeffix every day,at least one year. But another liver specialist told him, that Zeffix would destroy his liver and kill him.Can you give me some advice? Is Zeffix dangerous?Could Zeffix destroy his liver? He can't have Interferon. What is the best decision at this moment? Is it safe to continue Zeffix therapy?
Thank you!
