Lamivudine Resistant

Lamivudine Resistant

I was diagonised with hepatitus (hepatitis) b four years back. I had a C-section during my delivery and had a blood transfusion. 4 months later i was diagonised with this.
I tried ayurvedic medicine for a year, the virus count was very high, so my doctor started me on Lamivudine 1 tablet a day from january this year. In 3 months time Hep B PCR came down to 21000 IU/ml. Now after taking the medicine for 9 months the virus count has again gone up, now the Hep B PCR is 1630000 IU/ml.
My doc has asked me to change the medicine.
The virus count has risen, does that mean that the virus resistant to the lamivudine. MY present blooad tests are as follows.
Albumin 4.5 g/dL,AST 35 U/L,ALT  56
GT      10 U/L,TSH 2.2
Alkaline Phos 40,Amylase  48,bili 0.9
Hep B PCR 1630000 IU/mL,Hep B Copies 5240000 #/mL.
My doc is suggested me to change my medicine, how safe are the other medicines, should I continue on Lamivudine for some more time. Please advice.
Anyone with the same problem please share your experiences.
Thanks.

I saw on the news that this drug, Lamivudine, which they use for AIDS mostly, is shown to greatly reduce liver damage in patients co-infected w/ Hep-B. I have a GI appt. on the 21st for my 6 mo. PCR, and am going to ask about it.(Sx. etc.)  Joni
