Metformin and Hepatitis B

I am tested with Hep B Sur Ag and Hep B Core Ab Positive and Hep A IgG Positive (Sept 4, 04).
I am diabetic and been taking Glucophage 850mg (3x/day) and Glipizide 10mg (2x/day).
Right after My Dr found out about Hep B.  SHe asked me to stop Glucophage because she's afraid that it would harm my liver.  She replaced it with Novolin N (10 u @ bedtime).
I started the insulin on Sept 22, 04.  I felt really weird in my body: dry mouth, pain in my stomach, sweating, agitating.  Beside my blood glucose fluctuated from 200-300.  
Before I took insulin, my blood glucose was between 130-170.

So i decided to stop the insulin and went back to glucophage since Sept 24, 04.

My A1b/Creat ratio Collection (Random) on Sept 1, 04 was 24.1ug/mg.
Total cholesterol: 156mg/dL. Triglycerides 157mg/dL. HDL 45mg/dL. LDL 80mg/dL. A1C 7%.

My question is: Is it safe to take glucophage?  What are the consequences?

Your doctor is right, Glucophage is very risky with liver disease.  It can CAUSE liver disease in people who didn't have it to start with.  Get back to your doctor on Monday.  Report the results with the insulin, so she can rethink and reassess your situation.
