Omeprazole 20mg effect on the liver

Hello,

When I visited my doctor about my left upper abdominal discomfort, he prescribed Omeprazole 20mg for me.

I would like to know the effect this drug will have on me since i am a hepatitis B patient. Currently I am not on treatment.

Regards

it will cause no harm to u if taken for a short span. Though long term use is also not hepatotoxic but since its metabolism takes place in liver i won't advice it in advanced liver diseases. But healthy hep b individuals can take it without a single concern, its a good drug and enlisted in WHO's essential drug list.

I have diagnosed GERD, hiatal hernia, gastritis and reflux that aspirates into my lungs.  I take either Zantac or Omeprazole, depending on how I feel.  My liver doctor says that many hepatic patients take them and with my diagnosis I need to stay on medication.  I worry because I do not want extra stress on my liver, but also know that I have another health issue that needs medication.  Believe me, I have tried every and all non reflux medication options and they do not work for me.  Most can take for a 14 day period and get off.  If you can't, you need to be elevated by a GI doctor and have a upper GI done to diagnose if you have a bigger issue.
