Persistently extremely low HbsAg levels

hi everyone,

Today I found out that my HbsAg level was once again extremely low.
In January 2014 (the first record I have of my HbsAg) it was 3.4. In January 2015 it was 1.9. And today I was told it was only 1.5   !!
I am very pleased to have reached such low levels but despite this, I have still not developed antibodies.
My specialist expects this to happen at some point but added that it could take years.
I remember a few months ago reading a posting (possibly by studyforhope) which seemed to offer an explanation as to why some people remain at these very low levels. Unfortunately I could not find it. Can anyone help or comment?
My brief history (in case it provides any clues to my recent results) :
In 2004 diagnosed with HBV.
In 2005-2006 I did a 12-month course of peginterferon which was not successful.
Before starting peginterferon I was told I had a QUOTE extremely high viral load UNQUOTE, and at this time I was e antigen positive.
In 2006 I was given Entecavir but only partially responded, so my specialist added adefovir to the entecavir (around 2008).
My liver tests (ALT , viral load etc)  all reached normal levels around 2008/2009 and around 2011 I lost my e-antigen. Adefovir was stopped around this time and I continued on (as I still do ) with 0.5 mg Entecavir each day.

Can anyone help me to find the reference on this website and/or any comments on this subject (about these very low HbsAg levels) are very welcome.

Thanks guys !

it is known antivirals lower hbsag over a decade, not on all patients but many of them
you  can easily clear that low hbsag by:
peginterferon (you will respond to it now)
goleic added to tdf (another member here used it sublingual and cleared  stable hbsag 16-20iu/ml after years of tdf use)
stopping etv (dangerous)

vitamin d3 must be kept at max levels during this, around 90-100ng/ml, to help modulate immune system or on pegintf to help response

after hbsag is cleared hbsab should be seen by 6months, if not:
hbv vaccine
zadaxin

since goleic is free of sides and easy as sublingual i d give it a try

Thanks all. Sorte my HBsAb was negative. That was my first question to the specialist. The computer info just showed a minus sign for HBSAB. Some encouraging words again and plenty to think about. The Facebook group is a good idea.
Really appreciate all three latest posts!

Just curious, have you tested your HBsAb recently ? I believe that with such low HBsAg and no hbv dna there may be some small amount of it.

It was normal for him to focus his attention on DNA , because many specialist put in mind that there's no complet cure for hbsag , they sometimes neglect hbsag quantity . I was very surprised to see  guys here focussing their attentions on hbsag quantity .Very interested .Many patients with chronic hepatitis B had been cured with ART when put on a good diet and good supplements that help boost the immune system , the truth is that the percentage is very low .  I'm new here , but medhelp will help you so much , i really appreciate their efforts . Talk with your doctors . Always contact more than one specialist . Whatever advice you receive on line , talk with your doctor before taking a final decision.

And Nicolefor thanks too. From 2014 to 2015 I was just continuing my daily Entecavir 0.5mg. The Peginterferon period was summer 2005 to summer 2006. I only have HBsag info since 2014. I requested it specifically in 2014. ..now they give it automatically as the focus switched from viral load. 10 years ago my specialist only ever talked to me about ALT, AST and viral load. Now he is much more focused on HBSAG of course.

I don't know what my HBsAg level was in 2005-2006 (before and after Peginterferon). At that time the attention was focused on my viral load which was sky high in the millions before and Peginterferon only got it down to 50,000 if my memory serves me well.  Thanks for the nutrition advice  - much appreciated and I will definitely consider it all.

From jan 2014 to jan 2015 were you on a  treatment? .Control your nutrition very well , even if you start a new treatment with peg , take good supplements that can help boost your imune system .

Peg sides mean that there was some response, but maybe not strong enough that time to fully clear. What was your HBsAg quant during peg and after ?
You should try any immune boosting supplements to try to clear without peg first if you feel so bad.
Goleic is a good choice, it should boost overall immunity. Remember to take d3 with it.
I reminded that we have one member who was on etv too and he took nigela sativa (black seed) and cleared as well. It's good for the liver anyway so maybe it's worth to add.
Recently I've added Muril mushorooms extract (Grifola Frondosa) to my peg regime, it's found to boost peg and also has liver and immune boosting benefits. Other mushorooms with beta glucans are good too. They are tested for cancers, so they boost immune system for sure.

Another good question. The answer is I might well indeed choose to wait. I know my partner wants that after seeing that I had bad side-effects to peg the first time. Gonna look into the goleic that Stef mentioned too. I realize that I am in a fortunate position but not yet out of the woods so to speak.

Yes sorte very sure. The specialist used the expression "ridiculously low" in Dutch. He also said that many people have a reading in the thousands. I also saw Hbsag quantative  in the computer and also asked this same question myself last year to confirm.

Why don't you wait for few more years for clearing the virus naturally?

maybe it's stupid question, but are you sure it was quantitive test ?

Thanks Stef,
that reply helps me tremendously and I know you have helped many people over the years on this forum. Many people like me are so grateful for your help !

Interesting that there is something else I can try as opposed to Peginterferon. I had terrible sides the first time with Peg so whilst realizing that this time it is very likely to work I am still looking at other ways of tying to clear (teaching was a nightmare wheni was on Peg before - I a somehow kept going for a year but was very weak and anaemic at that time). So the goleic idea is a good one for me to investigate.

Thanks for the encouraging last post too (my specialist said the same last year). I can never say when I will clear of course but I am much more hopeful now than I was a few years ago.

Thanks again and wishing everyone all the best in their battles with HBV !

you dont clear hbsag because even if 0.05iu/ml by the test there are so many particles of hbsag still around in blood which the test cannot detect, if you wait you ll clear for sure anyway by next 5 years
