Pregnant and has hep b

So I'm pregnant and I was seeing a liver doctor before I got pregnant. He didn't want me to start on any meds because I'm only 24. Well now I'm pregnant and my viral count has double to 6 billion (I know that's alot). Both my liver doctor and obgyn suggested I go on Tenofovir in my 3rd trimester to reduce the risk of passing it on to my baby. My question is...should I? My liver doctor stated that once I go on the med, I'll have to stick to it for the rest of my life. Another thing is, my sister is also hep b positive (since we all got it from my mother who was a carrier) and she had 3 kids without being on any meds.

The last time I checked with my liver doctor, she stated that for some reason, my body is treating my hep b as though it is normal in my body and it's living side by side without attacking my liver. My liver function was also normal even though my viral count is sky high.

So my question is, why bother the hep b if it's not doing anything to my liver? If my sister was able to have 3 kids w/o being on meds then what's the difference if I do or not?

look as long as your baby gets the necessary shots when its born and within the first 6 months of his/her life, then all is good.

This is why we have a little section covering pregnancy on our health page:
