Question Re:HBV/HDV

I had HBV many years ago and was hospitalized with it for a week.
I did clear it on my own. I am now finishing 48 weeks of tx
for HCV.

I need some answers or info about the Hepatitis D virus
which ties in with HBV because the Hepatitis D virus needs the Hep B virus to survive....

HDV can be acquired either as
a co-infection (occurs simultaneously) with hepatitis B virus (HBV) or
as a superinfection in persons with existing chronic HBV infection.
(The above is from the CDC fact sheet)

My question is this...
Is there a test for HDV?  If there is, has anyone who has/had HBV getting tested for it?

I must admit, having had HAV, HBV, and now fighting HCV, the HBV virus is the most confusing to me.
I wish you all well, and hopefully someone could give me an answer about HBV/HDV.

Thanks in advance - your neighbor from the HCV forum...

Thanks Jack, I see my Dr. in a few weeks for my EOT bloodwork results. (For HCV)  I am gonna bring it up to him- and also why, with so many entering the U.S., we aren't being tested more for other strains of Hep.  I realize our medical system will be overwhelmed in the next decade with people with Hep. but that's no excuse not to test.  It's all politics - out of site, out of mind I guess.
Good luck to all...

There is a test for HDV. I got tested several months after having HBV. I tested negetive.
Get tested.
I wish all the best!

Thanks for answering so quick!

So I guess it really doesn't matter if we had/have HBV and also have HDV.  If the docs were concerned about the dual type infections they would test for HDV since they go hand in hand.
Thanks again...

>>>Is there a test for HDV?

Yes, it can be diagnosed by testing.  There is no vaccination against it.

Wish your treatment for HCV is successful like HBV treatment.
