1 out of 48 people who received ARC-520 in previous trials got a complete heart block. That particular individual had a pre-existing heart condition, but not a complete heart block. After the medicine was discontinued it is said that his complete heart block resolved.

Currently running phase 2 trials which will consist of multiple administrations of ARC (compared to earlier trials where, if I am not mistaken, 520 was a given as a single administration) combined with a greater number of patients in the currently running trials will probably shed better light on how safe ARC-520 is.
For hbeag negative people it would make sense only in combination with pegasys, together with which it could, but most likely not to a great extend, improve patients chances of cure. For example, instead of having 15% chance of cure with pegasys alone, one could have maybe 20% (or 25%) chances of cure if pegasys would be combined with 520.
Pegasys can cause substantial side effects though...pegasys + 520 could be even tougher on side effects....so the question is how much one would be willing to take a risk to get to a cure.
Above is just my own estimate (based also on consultation with studyforhope, and the fact that 520 can lower hbsag just by 0.3 logs in hbeag negative)...we will know exact numbers in about 1.5 years when the currently running arc-520 trial (520+ETV+Pegasys) is completed and results published.

For hbeag positive people 520 could be more meaningful then for hbeag negative however...

It is in old posts. Apparently this occurrd as a result of pre-existing conditions that were not identified during the screening process so it was not related to the drug. I hope that helps.
