Treatment

Hi Stef2011
Can you advise me if there is any treatment available for me, see the following:
Hbv for 50yrs+, e.ant-, antihbe+, hbvdna 270, alt37, afp1.3, all other levels normal, hbsag 5000, no liver disease/damage why can that be as I have had hbv for so long. Fibroscan 5.3, u/s normal.
I thought I read somewhere once that these could predict treatment.
I just want rid of this before it actually bites back & kills me.
Thanks for your help/advice

you just need to change the way of thinking. I personally think every hbv carriers goes through certain stages starting from fear and finally coming to indifference. Thinking of your personal risk in terms of statistic is really useless and crazy thing to do. Also if you think that HCC is the only type of cancer that you are at risk then you are totally wrong. There are so many types of cancers that we are all facing and each has it own risk with reference to you but you are not making excel table with your personal risk for every type of cancer, I hope you are not !!! but you certainly could, there are a lot of statistics on the internet so quite possible to make such kind of table.  You just need to take it easy and change your way of thinking.

Just think about how many women face breast cancer (by the way your risk of breast cancer is 0%) ? The risk for women is very high and every women has it's risk all her life. Have you ever seen women in panic she has breasts? Just think about it!

Hi Mrr,

Assume that I don't have any disease. When doctor says that I don't have any disease, can he write down on paper saying that I will not die in this year? No one knows what happens tomorrow. Let's enjoy today and forget about the disease.

No doctor will put in writing that you will not die of certain disease/cancer.  Why isn't his words not good enough, and want it in writing.   Seems a little strange on your part.  And if you develop hcc/ or liver disease from your hepatitis b virus, what good would his promise of health on paper do you.  Do you want to take him to court and sue him or something???  How do you take more comfort from
People on this forum telling you, rather than your doctor??  Like you said, the best bet would be find another doctor, that you feel comfortable with.  Best wishes

Hello Mrr49,
While you wait for Steff; I would like to ask you what you are bothered about? You said "I am going through a tough time at the moment...". But why? do you have any pains or troubling symptoms?
Mrr49, I'm a bit younger than you, am 43; and our hbv situation is similar, though I have a higher hbv dna, and I guess also hbsag. But to tell you the truth, I never worry about cirrhosis or hcc; these issues can be monitored, and you can take one of the potent drugs currently available if need be. In my situation I've lots of extrahepatic problems like kdney problems, muscle, bone and joint pains, weak legs, burning feet, and chronic bad breath. I'm more worried and troubled by these extrahepatic problems, but never by the liver disease itself.
The conclusion is, if you do not have any troublesome issues; why need to worry? The great majority of chronic hbvers never have any symptoms, and they live their lives just like other "healthy" people. Most of the people even never know about their hbv infection, because the disease is such a mute and sneaky one that most people never really experience any issues from it. In most cases the people live their full lives and die of old age, like most people. However in some unlucky ones, the disease is discovered too late when it has done irreversible damage, and could be the cause of death.
But in your and our cases, it is impossible that we will die from hbv, because we know we have it; we are monitoring it, and will take the medicine when the need arises.

Thanks liver patient.
I have been on/off this site for sometime & our friend Aduiski on here has been really helpful with advice. Somehow I can't get my head round hcc possibility. I looked up on "inactive carrier" hcc risk & it said 0.6 for carrier & 0.2 control, ie someone without hbv. I was told by my doc 0.3 risk. I have no symptoms as I know of. I can't make out why I have had no liver damage, which would put me more at risk I suppose, is that correct I should think that that is so.
I probably will die with it not from it, but why does my doc say to my face one thing but won't put in writing.
Sorry your having problems but I hope you improve soon.
I am not too bothered about liver disease, it's treatable.
Is that what they do if hcc is found give meds.
How long have you been infected, mine was found 23yrs ago by chance, I probably had it 20/25yrs before.
My doc only does annual afp,u/sound/fibroscan, my fibroscan/alt have increased each test & I worry, but doc says just fluctuations within range.
Keep chatting & thanks for advice I must try to forget I even got hep b as Aduiski said my risk was so low I am not considered for surveillance.
Sorry to go on.
Take care
Hello Mrr49,
Thanks for your well wishes and it is good to know that you do not have any troublesome symptoms. This means your hbv infection is such a benign one that your immune system has kept it in check; good for you. The advice is just to keep a healthy life style just like other people; and absolutely no need to worry.
The only thing, may be you could ask your doctor to increase the frequency of monitoring, at most to half-yearly, instead of yearly.
And I don't understand why your doc won't give a written comment of your health report; there is no reason not to do that. He has to do it anyway to keep record of your health situation.
when doctors discover hcc, then they give you some medicine to eliminate the cancerous cells; or they could also physically remove the cancerous tumor, so that it doesn't expand to other tissue. It is easily treatable when discovered early; that is why we need regular monitoring. But as we said before, your hbv status is such a mild one  that the risk really is minimal for you to develop hcc.
As for me, I have known about my hbv since the spring of last year. The symptoms that I mentioned before became more bothersome, and after several blood tests and consultations, I was told that I've hbv infection and that it is a chronic one. My guess is that I was born with this disease, meaning I've have had it for 43 years now; I only knew of it last year.
He said via emails between us he could not say I would not develop liver disease/hcc.
4 seperate times in one consultation I said will I get either & he said no. I had a friend in with me & he heard him also.
Anyway we move on.

Started a 30 day course of liver detox yesterday. 2 capsules morn. & 2 eve.
Do you think it can be beneficial.
Also what given my results do you think my hcc risk is still.
I am still looking for another hepatologist, my present one is supposed to be top man but I am not happy as he just tells me "stupid" things. He says to my face "I will not get liver disease/hcc, but when asked to confirm by e.mail he says he cannot say that.
