Understanding my results

Hi,

I have received letter from the hospital today and it says i will need to do liver biopsy and some more blood tests before i can get answers. There was a note in this letter: Blood results  show ALT 43, hep B DNA 10060, log 4.0 (eAG negative).

My questions are:

Is my ALT normal?
Hep B DNA is it high?
What log means?

Thank you in advance.

Stase

Thanks for your replay.
For the last 5-6 months i have been feeling very tired, pain in joints and right side of the body, have daily fever  hence went to see my doctor.
I'll admit i'm a bit scared to do biopsy, but i have waited for few months now to get some answers and i think i will do biopsy as it will be quicker...

Hi Stase,
Your Alt levels are not normal but that doesn't mean you should do Liver Biopsy.
You might want to check the welcome page here:
http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Hepatitis/HepB-Introduction--Welcome-Page/show/34?cid=153

Also LOG is one of the units of measurement for hepB DNA: http://www.hepb.org/pdf/hbv_dna.pdf

4 Log seems like 10,000 copies/ml which is not that high. Try to find FIBROSCAN m/c that is an alternative to Liver Biopsy and just like UltraSound (no invasive operation, simple scanning and more effective).

Try to visit a hepatologist (Doctor for Hepatitis) and check for details, you can avoid Liver Biopsy by doing Fibroscan (if needed). Viral load doesn't seem to be high.
