Viread and Hair loss question

So Ive been taking viread before bed for the last 4 years. My hair has been receeding and falling out throughout those years. It is now getting really aggressive and noticable. I stopped taking viread for a month to see if it would reverse and sure enough it did. It came back full and thick. Yesterday I took viread again and half of what came back began falling out. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? Im still young and my parents have good hair. What can I do to stop or prevent? I tried taking biotin but it seems its not enough

Stef, can you please explain why would it be recommended to stay with etv and not switch to taf (if he switched to etv due to hair loss issue)?

1month is not enough to see clearly if hair is falling or coming back because of tdf or natural causes (hair sheds and regrow naturally in certain periods the problem gets bad when there s no regrowth for few months)

you need more time to see clearly both hair loss and hair regrowth, by 1 month you only see baby hair growth of few millimeters, not enough to judge

so the most easy thing to do without any danger is switch to etv and of course check thyroid too which makes a lot of thinning and hairloss

Hi, hair loss is not indicated as one of the various side effects of tdf use, but if as you say, you have found out through stopping tdf for a while that it could be causing your hair loss, then it is time to take the issue with your doctor and find out exactly what is happening. The doctor may suggest other types of treatment for you.
But I have one advice for you, please do not experiment with stopping tdf abruptly on your own without consulting your doctor, because it may have a serious consequence for your health, meaning that your hbv could rebound back strongly with dangerous flares.

minoxidil does not have permanent effect, once you stop using loss of hair becomes worse than before. it may also cause irritation, itching and seborrheic dermatitis, so if you deicide hair implant in the future it may become a big problem.

very unusual to have tdf affect your hair.
I've never had any problems with tdf.

rogaine is a brand name for minoxidil.
very easy to find online or in drug stores.
be careful though, i think i read that it might increase your chances for cancer.

minoxidil, a molecule which opens blood vessels so more nutrients get to hair follicle and genetic hair loss can be slow down

if you are male it may have fastened hair loss, no need of close relatives to get the genes, they can come from 2-3 generations before

you can use etv and when taf available you can try taf too, but i d stay with etv

minoxidil generic, which is cheap, will get your hair back by few months use

What country are you living in?
TAF will very soon be available in US and most European Union countries...if you are there you should be switching to it as soon as possible and see if that will get rid of your side effects.

I am a male. It cant be genetics because my father is 70 with a head full of hair. Mom also. The other affects I noticed were, hot hands, hot feet. Cold/hot flashes and being dehydrated and needing to drink alot of water. What should I be checking for in regards to thyroid? I just want things to guide my doctor because doing the experiment stopping tdf clearly showed me it was tdf

are you female?check your thyroid, vitd25oh and intact pth, tenofovir increases pth and maybe lowers vit d too

if female switch to entecavir and see how it works

if male maybe you have the genetic baldness and only minoxidil can make it slower, also try switch to entecavir too
